Hello Hans Lolli ...

... and welcome to h2g2. smiley - smiley

I'm one of the <./>ACEs</.> (Assistant Community Editors). We are a team of volunteers who try to help new researchers for the guide find their way around. You can click on the link I made with that acronym in order to find out more. To find out more about anyone, click on the link made by their nickname (eg at the top of any conversation postings) to go to their personal space. Lurking is quite acceptable on h2g2. smiley - bigeyes

One thing h2g2 has a lot of, as well as researchers, is these <./>Smileys</.>. You can use them in your personal space and other articles, conversations and journal entries. You just type the shortcut text and they appear as if by magic on preview or posting. For example: < scientist > without the spaces becomes smiley - scientist.

If you are interested in Douglas Adams, then take a look at the URL in your browser and you will see a small tribute to him in the naming of this area of the BBC's site as DNA. You probably won't be surprised to find his personal space at U42 (just click on the link made by that number) - though it has been updated since his death. smiley - sadface However, he left a welcome message of his own on the site here: <./>Welcome-DNA</.>. smiley - wow

Here are a few more links you might like to try. A660340 is a list of "Clubs and Societies" on h2g2. Relax at A368093, the h2g2 Space-Farer's Cantina. Put your brain to good use in PeerReview, where there are a couple of articles on chemistry in need of some feedback comments (A986556 and A986835). <./>Askh2g2</.> is a good place to start or join a random conversation. You could try the infinite improbability drive on the "Front Page" if you don't know where you want to go or <./>search</.> if you do. See other guide entries too important to be merely a number at <./>NamedEntries</.>. smiley - biggrin

Above all, have fun and don't panic. If you do find yourself tempted to panic, click the "h2g2 Help" link on the left. It may help. smiley - online2long

Now, if you'll excuse me, there are probably other things I should be doing, but I'll be back if you call for help (ie reply to this message or post on my space). smiley - run

I suppose you're busy, (as you said), so to be brief:
Thanks for the help... I really appreciate it.

smiley - biggrin Aloha!

Thanks for saying thanks - not everyone does! smiley - biggrin
Some new researchers apparently think the ACEs are AIs, generating a personalised message automatically when they register. smiley - weird

No... I'm not referring to the Monty Python sketch either (although that WAS funny). I think that people just consider the ACE's to be automated because of all the spam that's out there, and the fact that most sites don't really seem to care about contacting people personally. On the other hand, I think it says on the front page that ACE's are volunteers. Which brings me to a different topic (I seem to be flitting about -- It's late...) on how people don't read anything before they sign up. Most people probably just check off the rules box without reading them (even though the rules are just basically common sense/normal etiquette). Is it that they just don't care about what they're agreeing to? I know Kazaa's license agreement states that you agree to have spyware placed on your system, but nobody notices because they don't really read, so they give out their personal info (including credit card #'s).
*sigh*
Alright... I'm done my rant, although it wasn't really on a specific topic, just floating around. Take care! Smile a bit more (always good to smile).
Cya *rides off on the horse he came in on. A black stallion, to be precise*
