The Sweet

I write this, my first journal entry, as I sit in front of my personal computer, listening to The Sweet on iTunes, perhaps the greatest band to come out of the glam rock era. I say perhaps, because there is one band that started as a glam rock outfit, then evolved from the rather limited creativity of glam rock into something much more interesting. That band is of course Queen, of which there are doubtless many fans on this website.

Moving swiftly back to the band that I first spoke of, The Sweet, I would like to say just one thing: aren't they great? They are just brill (brill happens to be my favourite word at the moment, so it may crop up more than once in further entries). I won't bore you by discussing their greater works or with biographies of the respective band members, but I will urge you to listen to a Sweet song, and I think you'll find it rather pleasant to the ears. They are a Scottish outfit, and, although not comparable with the gods that are The Proclaimers, they prove that Scotland has produced some of the finest musical talent in the world. Enough of this unnecessary waffle, just go and find a song by The Sweet (not to be confused with The Sweat, an anti-aerosol can pressure group) and listen to it. That's all I wanted to say really. I took a bloody long time to say it though, didn't I?

P.S. The pressure group "The Sweat" does not exist, it is merely a figment of my occasionally embarassing imagoination, and if there is any such pressure group, it is such an utterly strange and unlikely coincidence that it cannot be a mere coincidence, and the group must have read this entry and named themselves accordingly. To that group I will say one word - plagiarism. Make up your own bloody name, you idea-thieving tosspots!
