Welcome to h2g2!
I've only been here for a few weeks myself. Lots of friendly insane people here! Be careful though, this place is very addivtive...
So join as many conversations as interst you and write some entries to be immortalized... (I'm a little slow on the entries myself, but I sure do love 'chatting'!)
So, you're American, but grew up in England... Where are you now? (I'm Canadian... and just so you know, our PM does not reprecent our country well at all... in fact, neither the french nor the english can understand a word of his jibberish... *giggle*)

Howdily-doo! (Ned Flanders) Do you like the Simpsons?
I still live in good old London with my parents. I've never felt very British (I have dual citizenship US/UK) my heart belongs to the USA, but when I go back (all my relatives are in the US) I don't fit there either... it's pretty strange. Ack!
I want to go to university in the US. That will be a big adventure!
My best friend wants to go to McGill! That's the first thing I thought of when I saw you are Canadian.
Hello!

Hey there Neighbouroony!
What's McGill? Is that a McDonalds University?
Yes, I love the Simpsons! By brother and I watch them pretty much every day. Also love MP and some of the other stuff you mentioned on your homepage.
Where in the US are your people from? (I'm from Manitoba.)

hididdily hey!
I meant McGill University in Montreal. You're right, it sounds like a McDonalds university... I think that's pretty funny . I bet that name haunts them .
I've always wanted to go to Canada, my best friend adores Quebec. She goes to camp there nearly every summer. I envy Canada winters... Ilove snow and cold .Do you ski?
My family is scattered in a lot of states, but my immediate family (I haven't met any of my second cousins or great aunts/uncles etc) are in Arizona, Colorado, Texas and Conneticut.
So do you speak French? Is that necessary everywhere in Canada? I go to a French school here in London (Lycee Francais Charles de Gaulle.)Everyone asks why I attend a French school and the simple answer is that there is no reason. My parents just thought it would be great to give us (I have a brother and a sister) a second language. My parents didn't know any French when they entered me (I'm the oldest child) and they had to learn along with me! It was really tough going at first...
well I gotta "skidaddily-doo"
I'd like to say I'm "de-diddley-lighted" to have made your aquaintance on this site!

You should know that I'm from Winnipeg. It get's bloody cold and we all hate it! Minus 40 is not enjoyable by anyone! I don't hate a lot of things, but Winter is on my hate list. It's been nice here for a few weeks, though. No, I don't ski. Tried once, didn't like it. I enjoy cross-country sking on occassion. Quebec is practicly like a different counrty to most Canadians. Everything there is very different. I've never been East past Toronto, but I know quite a people that have. I'd love to go the Just For Laughs comedy festival there someday. It's really not nesaccary to speak French everywhere. Although it is a major plus if you want a cushy governtment job. I did take some French classes in school, so I know a bit. I think we were taugt the French they speak in France, not Quebec. It's probably more different than England English versus Canadian or American or Australian English.
"English!?! Who needs that? I'm never going to England!"
Is the school system the same in England as on this side of the pond? What grade are you in?

Hola!
I just got back today from Spain! (class trip)
Omigosh that is so WeIrD that you happened to mention that show... I was watching Just for Laughs on the plane this morning!
Do you mean which exams are taken in the British system? If this is so, we've got the GCSEs (taken in 10th grade)the AS exams (11th grade) and the A-Level exams (12th grade). I'm in 12th grade. How about you?

Me? I'm older than dirt! Well, not quite, I graduated in '99. I was just wondering if England did the K-12, then colledge or university thing. I would assume so. In Canada each province does things slightly different as far as exams and class programs. (Ontario has a grade 13!?!?)
So, you're graduating this year, then? Congrates! Any big plans for the future? (You gotta' ask!)

Oh I can't wait to graduate ! I've been accepted at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin so that's where I'm headed next fall! It's a small liberal arts and sciences undergraduates' college (I think there are 1300 students). These past few years my dream has been to become a professional cartoonist. I draw pretty well, but most of the things I draw are imitations of other cartoonists' work and I have no good punch lines or character ideas . Oh well, I'm only 18, I have some time to improve. My favorite comics are the ones that have a fixed cast of characters for example like Calvin and Hobbes. The coolest strips are those (in my opinion) that are not only humorous but explore the characters until they seem almost real. What comic strips do you get in your newspaper?
Oh I like the whale cartoon on your page!

It's good to hear that some people know what they're doing! I've always had a hard time picking a direction. I'd really like to get into fashion design, but I think that would only be adding to the problems in society. I want to do something creative yet something that adds to the value of life, not just superficially. I think Bill Watterson did a good job in his field.
Let's see... what cartoons do we get... I don't read them all, but the ones I like are: Dilbert, Sherman's Lagoon, (Took over Calvin & Hobbes spot, whom I love!) Baby Blues, Fox Trot, B.C., Cathy, Garfield, Classic Peanuts... some other ones that we get, but I don't usually like so much are Doonsbury, Archie, Dennis the Menace, Non Sequiter, CrankShaft, For Better or Worse, Wizard of Id, The Family Circus... That's all I can think of right now that are in the Winnipeg Free Press on Saturday. (I know it's traditional to have the comics on Sunday, but here it's the Saturday issue that gets the full color ones.) I'd have to say that my three favorite comic strips of all time are Calvin & Hobbes, Fox Trot and Dilbert. Although, I do like Sherman's Lagoon quite a bit, too. What are your favorites?
