h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I was sat on the train this morning and all of a sudden i wondered if i was dead. As in gone from this world, not attached to me anymore and well, basically a ghost. I wondered if i just hadnt noticed that id been killed or died some how. Im going mad there is something wrong with me. Then i started wondering if everyone i knew and spoke to was also dead. Im scaring myself.

Bit of a relief to know I'm not the only one that has ever thought like this. Thing is, they are just thoughts and best not to dwell on them. If you're really not here then neither am I, but if we think we are, then what's the difference?

If that were the case then it wouldn't be anything to worry or be scared of. I used to worry that I might go mad and not realise it until I realised that not realising it would probably be better than realising it.

To be honest, when I start worrying about whether I exist or not, whether I am dead or not, whether I am mad or not, this tends to mean that I have no other larger worries to worry about.

So perhaps you can take this as a good sign - that you doubt your existence. As it might mean you have no other more serious worries.

Trust me, when you have real life stuff to deal with there is no doubt that you are alive.

Because I am agoraphobic I often feel like I am totally losing my mind when I have to go outdoors and do things. But every time - and this works! at least for me - that I can find some other thing to focus on, then I once again feel connected to the world and less afraid.

My 'connecting' factors mostly have to do with who I love best. And when I remember how much I love someone, even one of my cats, this often helps me to feel more grounded and 'here'.

Aren't we all doubful sometimes - of our existance, sanity - I think we all suffer from self doubt at times.

All it needs is a couple of big breaths and maybe a and the releif will come flooding back when it's ready to.
