Hi, Andracat and welcome to H2G2, one of the best places to be on this planet and indeed on any other.
such a diverse range of interests! You are sure to fit right in here.
My name is Dr. Deckchair Funderlik, but don't worry, I'm not a doctor . I am an ACE for this place, that is: Assistant Community Editor. I'm basically here to help you. H2G2 is a big big place. Someone was sent off to mark the boundaries last year, but we haven't heard back from them yet. So if you're feeling somewhat overwhelmed, and I know I was when I started out, then here are a few places to check out:
If you are looking for more general information about the guide then go to the <./> welcome page</.>. . Its a good place to start.
When you are feeling creative, visit the <./> GuideML-Clinic</.>. This page will show you how turn your guide entries into the sistine chapel-type of entries they will doubt deserve to be.
If you are wondering how to make the smiley pictures like then click on any smiley. Simple, eh?
And, naturally, don't panic. No really, don't. Click on 'front page' and then click "Don't Panic" instead. It will take you to some nice big friendly help pages. Also, you might want to try this page by Rocket Man: A725500, as it is packed with loads of useful information.
So - that's it really - wander about, don't be afraid to ask questions, write a few entries when you feel like it, jump into the many conversations going on here and have many a , a , a and a on the way.
You are correct - H2G2 is a place for research - and, indeed, for researchers. All edited guide entries are researched by the individuals who create them.
Feel free to reply to me with any questions you may have. If you don't have a question, then feel free to reply with a definitive assertion.
Welcome Andracat!...

Wow-You sure are fast-I wish I could get that kind of service from my Doctor. Thanks for the welcome and info. I've been busy checking out the conversations, and it seems unlikely that dinner will be on time at this rate ...if at all!! So much to see,so little time!
Welcome Andracat!...
Andracat Posted Mar 19, 2003
Thanks Granny-I feel very welcome here and I've only chatted once before,so I hope you and everyone else forgives me for any inadvertant faux-pas I may make. I already feel silly because I cant seem to get the smiley faces to work-at least they dont appear as faces in my text?
Welcome Andracat!...
Dr Deckchair Funderlik Posted Mar 19, 2003
Try this: When you write your post, click on one of the smilies below the box you are typing in. You will see the name of the smiley in angled bracket appear in the text. To see the smiley, click the "Preview" button above "Post Message". You don't post when you click "Preview" its just to test things out before posting. You should see the smiley there, and if you're happy with it, click "Post Message" and away it goes. Simple!

I thought it might not show up until i actually posted Oh well,I'm sure I will have similar intelligent questions in the future At least dinner is decided-left over spanakapita from last nite. I have a great recipe for it and even people who dont like spinach love it!!! And the good Doctor should know that you have to feed the machine!
Welcome Andracat!...

Wow, there are smileys beneath the posting box in Brunel, I never knew that. Most instructive, you learn something new every day[1] here.
[1] may not actually be *every* every day.
Welcome Andracat!...

As I just learned that there aren't smileys beneath posting boxes in the other skins - thanks for that Alex
Andracat - what is 'spanakapita' when its at home? I don't think I am familiar with it..
Welcome Andracat!...
Andracat Posted Mar 20, 2003
Dr Deckchair, are tou teasing me-I can't tell for sure???....???
Welcome Andracat!...
Dr Deckchair Funderlik Posted Mar 20, 2003
Ah, yes, that happens to me quite a bit..
No, I wasn't teasing - it was a genuine display of complete culinary ignorance..
Welcome Andracat!...

Well then-OK Spanakapita is a greek dish-basically spinach pie. I know,it sounds gross but its quite good. Its spinach, feta cheese, onion baked in phyllo pastry (a paper thin pastry you layer and brush with butter) Basically you take a good healthy vegetable, and turn it into something that can clog up your arteries in one sitting!!! Best washed down with plenty of What is the protocol for adding friends to my list-I mean would I offend anybody by adding them? I come across a lot of interesting people that I might like to contact at a later time, and it seems to me the best way to keep track of them would be to add them. And whats the best way to add links? ( I am so ignorant) for pics, sites etc.?Or should I be asking someone or some where else? Thanks!
Welcome Andracat!...
Dr Deckchair Funderlik Posted Mar 20, 2003
Best way to go about it is to experiment!
I know something like Spanakapita, I just didn't know that name for it. I live in Romania, which is fairly close to Greece, and some of the food is quite similar.
Just to note also-
Protocol for adding friends - well, my own view is that you should add whoever you want to your list for 2 reasons: First, it is a practical measure, whatever they post in their journal will appear as a conversation on your page, so you can see if they write something new there. And second, I reckon everyone is flattered to find themselves noted as a friend. Most people seem to just go ahead and add to the list, so go ahead.
If you get any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Hey that spinach thing sounds really good, pity I'm not eating pastry at the moment I'll bet it tastes just as good as an omelette filling
Welcome Andracat!...
Andracat Posted Mar 20, 2003
Yeah-same idea only add a half a # of butter and pastry!!! I had a look at yor page and was reading about the black goo-very detailed process. I like to try different things but...I'm scared...
Key: Complain about this post
