Oh my god, now I know why you don't understand the importance of social constructs! Wait till you get out of school and start dealing with more people social constructs are the basic guidelines of how you deal and get along with people.

I do enjoy your opinion! Tell me more.

Why ask me here rather than in the thread? I have been honest in there - I can't really think of anything to add.
The importance of social constructs eh? What would those be exactly. In quantifiable terms if you would.
I could make the moot argument that I'm in uni not school - but I take your point, both are closed enviroments with relitively accessible measures of sucsess etc. I do work however, done a fair bit around various offices in birmingham - from dull 'ol data inputting through running an IT department to interviewing new employees (Haha that was my first job)
I tend to deal with people from time to time, in general I can get along with most people. I am perfectly capable of following social constructs when I have to - I would never have been employed anywhere if I wondered in dressed as I like to and acted the way I tend to do given free choice, I just think its a waste of rescources to act that way - it seems a terrible shame that hundreds of people meet each day with no opportunity to be themselves - I don't see that prodictivity would suffer if the constructs were not in place. All in all I can live in a world where they exist, I just think the world would probably be a better place without them.

I don't believe the world would be a better place. The social constructs that we have had have been in place for centuries, they have evolved and we have discarded some of them but we have always had them. If everyone was themselves all the time we wouldn't get along with each other. I work retail and deal with many different people with varing backgrounds and beliefs, social constructs or graces are the guidelines of us getting along. It's a unspoken form of communication. I reserve being myself for friends, family or people I am talking to on the internet. If I didn't I probably wouldn't be able to get along as well at work not with the employees but the customers.

I like someone holding the door open for me I can do it but there is just something nice about a guy who has good manners and does it for me. I think about him in a different way. It shows that he was raised to respect women and others, that he might be a kind and caring person. To hell with women's lib I like it!
