Well, friends, I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. It's all happened incredibly quickly, and I don't have the time, and suspect I won't have the energy, to write about it in two places. So please visit my blog:

And keep up with me there

I think this is it, now, for me, on the BBC version of this site. I'm at work all day tomorrow and then off to the National Portrait Gallery for a private dinner ... did I mention that? ... and I rarely get on here over the weekend anyway.
So I just wanted to say, fingers crossed, and I'll see you all over on the other side. And if we lose anybody when we go over the top ... well guys, it's been great, y'know?
Time for some heartening community singing I feel:
And now, the end is near ...

Hurrah hurrah hurrah hurrah
See, I have this week off work to fit the new kitchen. But although the weekend was hard work, yesterday and today have been spent watching the new floor dry ie not hard work at all.
Yesterday I spent almost all day on the computer, clocking off for 45 minutes of frantic tidying which made it look as though I'd been slaving all day.
And today I have
Sorted all the household filing
Calculated the balance on Osh's childcare
Booked the Legoland tickets
Sorted through TWO YEARS worth of till receipts
And it's only just lunchtime!!!!
This afternoon I'm working through my Guides to-do list
And then tomorrow the hard work actually starts, when the kitchen units arrive in the morning.

Drinking lots of water

Because I am having a colonoscopy this afternoon. So I had my last meal at breakfast time yesterday (adding to the condemned woman feeling), and have had to take vast quantities of obnoxious bowel preparations.
My head *really* hurts, but I can't take anything for it, and I really want to just sleep for a bit, but I daren't in case I have to rush off to the loo again. This is a Good Thing because it means I am now looking forward to being given a sedative this afternoon, something which prior to today I was dreading.
DH has just phoned to say he thinks he can get away from work to meet me when I arrive at the hospital
I wonder if people who work in hospitals would be this anxious, if they were coming to *my* place of work (to be interviewed in an investigation, say). Hey ho.

My entry on BST is today linked from the front page *of the main BBC website*
I wrote that about a fortnight after I arrived here. I didn't think it was right for the Guide so it went into the Underguide, until the eds wanted it for a FP link a couple of years ago (at about this time of year, naturally).
And now it's making me famous

Write an Entry
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
