I agree that your son's will be able to appreciate the Tick in all his big blue magnificence, but am shocked and mortally offended (in the most joking manner possible) that they didn't like the cartoon. I was not impressed with the live action version either however.
The Tick has that way with people, inspiring any who come into contact with him to the strange and unusual, in your case; spending money on comics. It was the same with me, the Tick comics being the only ones I have ever bought.
Man Eating Cow and Paul Samuri both played rather small roles in the original comics, to some acclaim I might add (Paul is legendary for his homeric maintenance of the 'Watering Crane' position on the flight over from Japan). I have never read the spin off comics though. If you like them I may consider another investment in the Wide World of Tick.

I think I mis-represented the situation. My boys did like the cartoon. I just didn't think it did justice to the comics. Don't get me wrong, the cartoons were fine, just not comic quality. As for the live action version, well, it wasn't that great either. Shame too, they both had such potential. I just don't think the producers, or directors (or whoever) really understood the scope of the big blue One. I suppose though, the comic was pretty obscure, so what should one expect?
I knew PS and MEC were part of the Tick comics, just didn't (and still don't) know anything about the quality of those spin offs. When I find out I'll let you know. Hope you aren't holding your breath though or you'll turn blue like our hero. They are coming from Canada, so I expect will take a couple of weeks to arrive. Once they get here I doubt I will read anything before The Tick. There's another couple of hours you'll have to wait.
And while we are on the subject of comics, I would like to point out that we have come full circle, or perhaps it is more of a trapazoid...
We plotted to take over the world with a cult centered around the pink platypus, hebetude, and vivacity. Then we decided it would be fun to play with monkeys hopped up on pixi sticks skating around throwing bouncy silly string balls (and making imprints of comics) while hoola-hooping.
All this only to discuss the one blue hero who could prevent such plots as The Great (don't touch) Platypus Caper. And which comics do you suppose those monkeys are imprinting? Hmmmm.... almost cosmic or something, eh?

It's all part of the Big Blue Destiny, which is coincidently the name of a later series of Tick comics, though not done by Ben Edlund (the creator of the Tick and the first 12 comics). Not having read this series I can easily envision Tick matching wits (hehe) with the cruel and conniving Pink Platypus and his brainwashed henchmen, all of whom are followers of the Cult of Hebetude and Vivacity! Not quite sure how the monkeys fit in just yet, be they friend or foe?

They're probably just hedging their bets, or are they just a hedge?
Moving right along.

I am convinced we are in some sort of cosmic trapezoidal loop, which keeps repeating itself. Only it's not really repeating itself, more like duplicating itself. Only not exact duplications, but mere representations of duplications which are somewhat different, while maintaining their similarity. That's why we feel as though we are turning into penguins... rather like being drunk, wouldn't you agree?

Ooo, I like penguins...and being drunk. Especially a SRHD.

I read the stuff on the SRHD page. I suppose I qualify
I also think you do not have enough things to distract you from the things you should be doing.
You touched the platypus, but didn't sign the guestbook (3 minutes to come up with something terribly witty to say there).
If you aren't familiar (and completely caught up) with UserFriendly, I suggest you go to http://www.userfriendly.org/archives.html, and read all of the comic strips. You too can become a victim of the User Friendly Productivity Virus. You can also find your geek code there, I'll have mine soon! And you can see Pitr attempt to take over the world. Good stuff really.
When you've done with that, I am sure we can find something else, mindless, for you to do.
Or, you can help me plot to take over the world (yes, I'm back on that kick).

no comma that time.

I hate it when commas support other comma governments during cold war situations. Stinkin commas.

I sure am glad to know, you're not a commanist!

xero Posted May 24, 2003
No way. On an individual basis I have nothing against commas, as one can see from my writing I believe they have their place. That's not a good exclamation of my point. Commanist regimes are notoriously corrupt, ampersand they have little regard for human rights, period. My apostrophes if I have come on too strongly on this topic, commmas just chap my asterisk.

Okay, I am a bad bad woman. I should have replied more quickly, and now I feel terrible. There was just so much pressure to come up with something terribly witty, and well, I just couldn't make the grade. Now all I've achieved a cliche, and still managed no wit. Oh wait! Perhaps the pressure wasn't enough, and I really needed only three minutes! I am soooo confused. Woe is me!
Hope all is well.

Fine is me! One such as the Benevolent Tyrant of Hebetude and Vivacity need not sue for pardon, besides not only was your comma reference the inspiration of my little tirade, but it's only fair that I should one up you for once in the terribly witty department.
Presseure is an interesting stimulus, I am typically incapable of studying or much work unless under quite a bit of pressure...To that end; I am procrastinating magnificently, it being finals week and term papers due soon, and think I'll sleep for a while now...How are you?

Well, as I believe it is inconceivable to be anything but, I am tremendously peachy. Thank you ever so much for your inquiry!
Benevolent tyrants, especially ones of hebetude and vivacity, can be so wishy-washy, (Seriously, how many other tyrants do you know who can’t even commit to being tyrannical, let alone make a decision about sloth or liveliness?) I am surprised they do not have to beg pardon more often. Of course since I am the only Benevolent Tyrant of Hebetude and Vivacity I know, I guess I can’t make a judgment about what other said tyrants may, or may not get away with.
We (that is the royal "we" since I'm feeling particularly imperial this evening)have decided one could, if not feeling too lethargic, make a leap and suggest that procrastination is closely related to hebetude, and therefore could honor you with an award. Hmmm… Oh I know... Congratulations, you now have the distinction of receiving the first ever MBA.
Ahem…..
Know ye that we, PenGwen, Benevolent Tyrant of Hebetude and Vivacity, in consideration of singular abilities and deeds, do by this advance Xero, to the rank and estate of Master of Boondoggle Arts, with all the responsibilities and privileges thereto appertaining. This is so done and given on this 10th day of June Anno Domini 2003.

I'm honored to be receiving this reward.I want to thank the comity...for doing what the Tyrant says. I want to give a shout out, and props, and dubs, and, and yeah...my peeps!
See PG, I'm just as bad, a couple of lousy term papers due and I don't answer for three days. Being the only known BTHV, you can act any way you want under the excuse that it's the way BTHV's are. Who would dare gain say the Tyrant? But maybe the 'Benevolent' part keeps you from abusing your power.
I have got to say I like the MBA, it's going right up on the wall. For alot of people the whole of h2g2 is a boondoggle. And I definitely agree it's an art not a science.

PenGwen: Benevolent Tyrant of Hebetude and Vivacity, Keeper of the Wonder Book of Useless Knowledge Posted Jun 19, 2003
Yeah yeah yeah... a few lousy term papers and there ya go... blah!
I'm glad you like the MBA. Perhaps this could be the new cult on H2G2 (I just can't help wanting to be adored and followed... must be the tyrant in me). There are so many cults here though, I can't decide. Do I want to be like everyone else, follow the crowd, start a cult like so many before me... Or do I want to aloof, and not tell anyone about my special award?
Since you are the premiere MBA, perhaps you have an opinion.
Oh I know... the other option would be to open the award to applications, then be judicious in the handing out of such an important document. Of course someone would have to actually want to apply... and while you like yours, I'm not sure you would have asked for it. I know I wouldn't have!
Oh, by the way, Man Eating Cow, is every bit as ridiculous as the Tick!!! Rather than go to the Dairy Queen, they visit the Dairy Pope. Udderly silly!!! Like that was the most clever thing you have seen all week!!!

hmmmm... maybe handing out MBAs is a bad idea. Wayyy too much trouble. Okay, but that's not a reason to just quit talking to me!!! LOL. Hope all is good.

Hey PG! I thought we'd established the "I'm honored to receive.." part of my MBA, shame on you for the suggestion that it is why I haven't written. =) I've been on the Juneau Icefield for the last two months, ans there is no connection there (funny thing, that). Any way it's good to be back home, and back to h2g2, though reestablishing connections at home may prove to be much simpler than doing so on h2g2. (shrug) So talk to you soon.
