Please could you tell me tips on how to become a library assistant please. I'm desperate for a job and would love to live the dream.

Hi Opticalillusion,
The routes you can take really depend on whether you're a graduate or not, and whether you want to stay as a Library Assistant or go on to become a Librarian. Probably the best thing to do is to look at the help on http://www.cilip.org.uk/jobscareers/careeradvice/startingout
CILIP is the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, and has a lot of information about careers in Librarianship. It might not all be relevant to you, if you want to be a Library Assistant, rather than a Librarian, but the "starting out" pages should be of some help, I hope!
http://www.lisjobnet.com/Lisjobnet lists Library jobs in the UK and abroad. If you're a graduate and want to become a Librarian you should look at the Graduate Trainee opportunities at http://www.cilip.org.uk/qualificationschartership/GraduateTrainingOpportunities. There are only a few left for this year though.
Hope that helps!
