Learning GuideML day 2

Ok, the time has come for me to learn this thing. I’m off to find out where it was. I think I’ll try the welcome page.
Not there, I’ll try help. It can’t be far away.
Look at that, I found it as easy as can be. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/DontPanic-GuideML now to read, read, read.

Learning GuideML day 1
Posted Apr 14, 2003
At last, I’m going to sit down and learn how to jazz up my entries with this GuideML. This is exciting. I don't think it can be any harder than html, and most likely easier. Only problem is trying to find that place I saw where I can learn about how to do it. I think it was on the front page.
Ops, new episode of the Simpson’s are on is 2 minuets. I had better go watch that instead. I'll learn GuideML tomorrow.

advise for someone looking for work in Vancouver
Posted Mar 11, 2003
Good question. The first thing I’d do is to get the work visa sorted out. Next is to decide what type of job you want. The service industry is easy, especially in the summer months, just show up with all your papers in order, and enough money to last you a 3 to 6 weeks until you have a job. The more the better because it’s normally over 2 weeks before they pay you in Canada.
The other option is to get a job before hand, this I a lot harder. (And I mean a lot!) Try a hotel, or what ever your specialty that you are studying is. The thing to keep in mind in BC especially is the unions. They are everywhere and make it very difficult to (a) hire new people especially for short term like one year, and (b) to keep the money for yourself, (you have to pay union dues). But don’t let this scare you. Vancouver is a great city.
There are a few web sites, many run by the Canadian government. I think one of them is jobshop.ca but if you search on something like google.ca you can find allsorts of sites.
One thing I would recommend against is working without your proper papers. It can be done, for example, right now there is tones of daffodil picking, but it’s not worth the risk, and especially around Vancouver, the risk of being caught is too high.
The most important thing is to keep positive. That’s what employers in Canada look for the most.
