Iwould like to say thanks for talking with me when I joined only a few months back.
It nice to feel welcome, especially as we often look to new things when our lives are getting heavy or complicated. Its a kind of displacement behaviour.
Cheers again

It was my pleasure and nice to meet you too, old aardvark - and I'm also glad you sent in a photo for the gallery.
Little bro, I remember last year you found out your sign-up date was just after mine (following me around as usual . . . )

What exactly is the 'iCan method'? Does it vary significantly from using the h2g2 newusers page, and then manipulating the time units in the URL?

Potholer Posted Mar 1, 2005
Ican - goto home page, edit URL to change 'h2g2' to 'ican'.
'Member since' date is displayed prominently near top of page.

I went back to check the dates I created all my Guide entries.
I found that.. I created my first guide entry on 8th of October 2001, and my personal space on the 13th of October 2001. iCan says I joined on 13/10/01.
I still remember seeing 'New this week' next to my name in the 'Who's Online'!

Potholer, I have a sneaking suspicion that you are either a Goo or an Alabaster user.
If instead of changing the 'h2g2' bit to 'iCan', you change the h2g2 skin name to 'brunel', you'll find that the 'Member Since' date is displayed at the top of the U-page just like your 'iCan' method.
Now here's the interesting bit. When I checked my own U-page under iCan, the was no 'Member Since' message displayed. But when I looked at some other users U-pages (OK it was yours and azahar's I that checked out) there was a whole new section there telling me what your real names were, and how long you had been members. Therefore the iCan method is in actual fact showing me less information about joining dates than the Brunel route, as it won't show mine to me.
Now here's another interesting bit. We all know from what azahar has already told us, that she joined on the 28th February. But we also know from the 'iCan' and 'Brunel' methods that she only activiated her U-page on the 2nd March. The method of showing that her sign-up date really was in February can only come from URL manipulation, such as this - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/NewUsers?unittype=month&timeunits=25&skip=500&show=100&thissite=1&Filter=off
But that's not the really really interesting bit.
There is a method of showing, by manipulating the URL above, that she in fact signed up at 22:58 plus 4 seconds (GMT) on Friday evening of the 28th February, 2003. But if I told you how that was done, then I would have to shoot you. Sorry

Oooer, sorry, " in MAH day, Kings Heath was far superior to Northfield", so i was actually complimenting your postcode area!
As to kitchen floods, i meant the time i flooded not only your kitchen but the shop downstairs in an ill advised attempt to wash up!
How's life at college?

That's Odd, GreyDesk, I do use Goo, but if *I* visit my own PS in brunel (via Firefox or IE)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/u92580
I *don't* get a 'Member Since' field anywhere on the page - the only references to '1999' are at the bottom of the page (two articles and the 'page created' date, which may be the same as the member since date, but isn't described as such and is cerianly nowhere near the top of the page).
If I look at *your* PS in brunel, I don't get a 'Member Since' field either.
If I look at my PS *or* yours via Ican
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ican/u165955 (or u92580)
I *do* see a 'Member Since' field for both of us.

Ye gods, I'd forgotten how ugly Brunel is.
If you look at someone else's personal space, that create date does show up at the top of the page. However, since the day someone creates a personal space isn't necessarily the same as the day they join, it's not very useful. In fact, I had to go looking through my own stuff twice, because I was pretty sure I didn't create a personal space until my second day... but my first posts are on the same day as my personal space's create date, so I may have been mistaken.

GreyDesk Posted Mar 2, 2005
Potholer, are you sure about that? In brunel, as Blatherskite says, you should be looking towards the top left hand side for the date. It's still within the white section, but to the very top left hand side of that.
I checked yours and my U-pages in Brunel and Goo on IE, Opera and Firefox. From what I could see, I got a 'member since' / 'date created' for both of us in all browsers under a Brunel skin; and none for the same criteria under a Goo skin.
Weirdness?

I always see the 'created on' thing on any brunel page, be it my PS or someone else's. This still seems like the simplest method to me. Then again, I'm primarily a brunel user, so I'm used to it all.

I found blicky here (March 5):

Edward, I mixed up Jarmusch titles - the one I ordered was Mystery Train, not Night on Earth.
And today is Noggin's birthday!

GD, looking at my own PS, in brunel the 'created' date is way down the page, and (at least in Firefox, running a screen at 1600x1200 pixels), the font size/colour combination in brunel is quite hard to read. So much so, I didn't initially bother checking out *other people's* pages in brunel (to realise their dates are at the top of the page) before reckoning ican was a better route.
In Ican, the date is always at the top, and in relatively large and legible type. I'm still puzzling why you don't see your *own* 'member since' details via Ican, since I certainly see mine.

Noggin the Nog Posted Mar 2, 2005
Mine shows up on iCan, but I can't see it on Brunel.
And I was aced on the same date - June 7, 2002.
Little did I know then what it would all lead to...
