Looks like a nice place and you managed to find a few nice places to eat and drink...who'd have thought it smiley - tongueincheek

Glad to hear you managed to saok up a little of the ambientation, what would a visit be without it? What a nice man in the tourist office telling you about somewhere non-touristy...that you went and touristed in.smiley - run

Yeah well, Sintra was Nog's idea. I would have preferred another day wandering around Lisbon being *non-touristy*.

I really am the worst tourist ever. I have very little interest in The Sights™ and much prefer just walking in the streets and finding little nooks and crannies where you can get a feel of what living in the city might be like. And of course fab places to eat and drink - that's half the fun.

Having an apartment made such a difference - much more comfortable than staying in a hotel.

Just looking at your tag - you went on holiday too?

Yes, I went away with Helen her youngest son Ellis, her sister and brother-in-law Jane and Jason their two sons Jerome and Byron, Sarah, a life long friend of Helen and Jane, and her daughter Autumn.

We went camping in the Cotswolds, rolling hills, lakes and old buildings, nice. Putting up th tents was both traumatic and fun. Then we got into the normal campsite stuff BBQs scuttling out of rain showers and drinking too much on the evenings.

We went round and looked at lots of buildings made of the yellow Cotswold stone visited a village fete. On another day we went to the bird zoo at Bourton-on-the-Water which was nice but the village was rammed full of tourists. I'd been on a school trip as a kid and remembered it much the same but as there was only our class there at the time there was a lot more space to do things like scratch your bum or breath.

Things were gonig well till on the third night I drank too much. I was backwards an forwards to the toilet all night and just put it down to the drink. Next morning I felt a bit unwell so Helen and I went to look at more old buildings (some of them had shops in which excited Helen no end) and everyone else went off to watch some medieval style jousting. By the time we got back I had a sore throst and felt a bit ill. After two days of alternately baking and then shivering in a tent I thought it was time to go to the doctors.

Well everyone else forced me to, they noticed I hadnt eaten for nearly two days and thought this was a bad sign. It turns out Id got a water infection and being run-down had led to a secondary infection in my tonsils. (I got some anti-biotics which cleared everything up in a few days.)

So we came back a couple of days short of the full week but what I remember of it between the bouts of delerium brought on by the fever and lack of food was fairly nice.

Oh no, now I understand why you need a rest from your 'holiday'. Though being seriously allergic to camping myself, I'm sure I would have had the same reaction just from sleeping in a tent. smiley - winkeye

I had a bad bout of gastrointeritis before I went to Lisbon - if it had happened a few days later it would have seriously disrupted my holiday. Even if *the hand incident* had happened a week later I would have had to wear the cast in Lisbon, which would have been very unpleasant. So I guess I was lucky?

When will you be bringing Helen to sunny Sevilla? smiley - smiley

That could take some time and some doing. Her sister is a demon (and I mean that in two ways) for organising stuff.

So far Im booked for 10 days camping in Cornwall this year with the same bunch and next year at Easter Im going to Poland with the sisters Jason and Jane's boss and his wife.

I think Helen might like some things about Seville, the shops the buildings she might go fo too and the nightlife is something she enjoyssmiley - bubbly

She does like a loaf in the sun preferably on a beach. How Jane got her to go to Poland is beyond me, but like I say that woman has powerssmiley - monster

I'm now into the second half of the National Blog Posting Month challenge, or NaBloPoMo. All I have to do is post something *every day* on my blog for the month of November.

I was starting to feel a little shaky around day 11 and posted this ...
