War of the Post

No one would have believed in the first years of the Twenty-First century that this website was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than Awix's and yet as mortal as his own; that as hootoo’ers busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency men went to and fro over the Guide and about their little communities, serene in their assurance of their mastery over their business. No one gave a thought to the dismal suburbs of Greater Manchester as sources of human danger, or thought of them only to dismiss the idea of life upon them as uncivilised or insensible. It is curious to recall some of the mental habits of those departed days. At most hootoo researchers fancied there might be other h2g2ites in Swinton, perhaps inferior to themselves and ready to welcome a helping hand with their GuideML. Yet across the gulf of The East Lancashire Road, a mind that is to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that can’t work the Internet, an intellect vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded these Researchers with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew his plans against us.
And in the weekly Post came the second great Inquisitor….

Yep, my Post column is now pretty much established, and in the pipeline you can look forward to interviews with:-
Number Six
Egon
TB Falsename
Luthenia
and, if he ever answers the bloody email I sent him, Jack Russell!

But, true to form it doesn't look like I'll have an interview ready for the next deadline, so if anyone will be online tomorrow daytime and wants to hurl themselves into the breach, just leave your email addy here and we'll see what we can cobble together shall we?

Keep on Watchin' the Road

Manchestaaaah!

A2309500 - Is my third singular entry into the edited guide, written before my disillusionment with Jilly's Rockworld, which at one point was my club of choice. Doubters said it was a glorified advert and shouldn't make the Guide, but I'll take the opinions of said doubter more seriously when they have something edited. My name is now on eight entries. Two of them about my home town and city.

Today was my first foray into Manc in the daylight hours this year, and I forgot how much I loved it. I spent from 11am to 2.30pm sat in St Anne's square listening to my favourite busker (he played me 'Here Comes The Sun'. Twice) and then watching an acrobat/escape artist/scrounger who was quite funny, in a naive, charming way. Then Kat had her break from work and we wandered round the town centre a bit. Urbis, possibly the most hideous building ever constructed, seems to breed Minimoshers, and Picadilly Gardens seems to serve as an overflow. All in all it just reminded me how much I'm going to miss the place in my self-imposed exile in Sheffield (or Nottingham) for University.

Apart from that, we had a night out for St George's day last night, and that was quite fun apart from the now traditional argument between me and Kat at the taxi rank.

Anyway, I'm just rambling, so...

Keep on in'

The Hitch-hiker's Guide Movie

Well, I may not be qualified to talk movies, but after reading the interview with the top brass on this movie ( A2257599 ), I have a few opinions on the casting.

Arthur Dent - Martin Freeman (http://home.iprimus.com.au/sjkrob/bio/tim.htm shown here) from the Office. This might work, as he's close to the mental image of Arthur I have.
Ford Prefect - Mos Def (http://www.cnn.com/interactive/entertainment/0211/gallery.rappers.movies/content.9.html shown here) the rapper. No, NO and thrice NO! This isn't the man I saw as Ford Prefect. Not to be racist, but I doubt a black american rapper will work. Not at all. No siree...
Trillian - Zooey Deschanel (http://tedstrong.com/zooeydeschanel.html shown here). Now this one might work. I know nowt about her work, but on sheer visual appearance, I reckon she can pull it off. Let's hope she does a good English accent, because a foreign Trill might ruin bits of the film for me.
Zaphod Beeblebrox - Sam Rockwell (http://www.prisma-online.de/tv/person.html?pid=sam_rockwell shown here) looks like he might be able to be Zaphod, if he wears that extra head well. Although if the head isn't convincing.....

Now let's hope they use Marvin's voice from the TV show. Ahh, I love Marvin.

Keep on Hitchin'

Normal Service Will Resume.....

....at around midnight tonight.

Well, what's disrupted normal service over the past four days? Let's have a look through my hazy memory....

FRIDAY - The Insomnia Strikes Back

Good Friday to those of the Christian faith. Let's see, we have a nice argument with my father about having to have some rank tuna-pasta effort for tea because 'I don't care if you're an atheist, this is a christian country and you are not having a bacon buttie!' Which led to me playing "I Am The Ressurection" by the Stone Roses at full blast because 'We're in a f**king Christian country, and this song might as well be about f**king Jesus!"
Also, my mother was babysitting Kendell (Cousin's illigitimate daughter) and Jake (Cousin's common-law stepson), which for some bizarre reason lead to me being awake at 6am Saturday (having spent the night playing Total War, Baldur's Gate II, talking to HPB online and eating bacon) reading Spot the Dog books to a baby with Chickenpox.

SATURDAY - The Longest Day

I got two hours kip between 10am (when said sproglets had gone home) and 12 noon when I had to make the journey to Blackburn and see Leeds beat Rovers to get one step closer to safety. So upon getting home at 5pm, knackered I think to myself 'beddy-bo's!'
Oh no. Because Kat wanted to go out. Just for a few quiet drinks. So while everyone else was in 5th Ave smiley - mod, the two of us were in a student bar drinking shooters (the infamous B52 - Kahlua, Baileys and Tia Maria layered in a shot glass) and copious amounts of lager (or alcopops dor the lass...) which led to me not getting in until 2am, then having conversations I don't remember on MSN. Oh, and promising to go to the sodding theatre. Whoopee.

SUNDAY - TUESDAY - Back To Basics.

A tent. With The General (Marc Hayes) and visits from Sharples and Dave Hurst. We drank lager, we smoked (although I wasn't smoking tobacco... smiley - winkeye) and we drank coffee (which in parts contained the none-tobacco smiley - winkeye).
We had a fire of intense heat, we listened to Max Raabe, Hammerfall, Napoleon XIV and other wierd music.
We talked. Sample conversation:
Me to Sharples: If I were a girl, I wouldn't fancy you. (Why?) You're not my type.
Marc to the Universe (whilst shaking head) Fire, Dark! Fire, Dark!
Dave Hurst: So is this the MoD??
Sharples: Anyone mind if I throw this on the fire? (a bag of his excrement, which smelt rather funky).
Me: I'm not under the thumb, I just promised Kat I'd go to the theatre!

And soon, I'll be off to Elland Road for the Leeds - Everton game, but fear not, I will be back!!

Keep on Trukkin'

Volunteers?

A737327

Yep, I am now the new Mr Inquisitor, and have charge of the Post Column 'Meet Mr Inquisitor [Redux]' (Thanks Awix!)

But the thing about this, y'see, is that I need muchos MUUUUUCHOS pie, I mean, erm, volunteers. Not the pie. I mean, Weebl killed the pie. Why didn't HPB do his column this week on Weebl and Bob as opposed to One Ring To Rule Them All! ?

Oh, wait, I'm babbling.

Anyway, volunteers (and I'm looking right at you Kit) contact the wonderful Shazz on her email, which you can find somehow by clicking the blue writing on the Post.

Oooh, the Undertones are on TV.....
