h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

If you follow me on Twitter, you might have heard that the long-running house purchasing saga has been resolved, and that L and I finally purchased a new home last Friday.

Since then, I've been wrestling with no less than 30 boxes of IKEA furniture, eventually turning my last allen key screw on Wednesday evening at a little before 11:30pm. All that's left now is the simple logistics of putting all my stuff at the flat in boxes, moving it two miles down the road, and then taking it out of the boxes again.

Except for one further detail.

I need to retrieve the couches, dining room table and chairs and the other half of my book collection from my parents' garage. So we've got a van to pick it up on Saturday morning. All we need to do is drive it up to my mum's house, load everything up, and cart it off home.

But Salford Council think that's a silly idea. So they've dispatched a crew to replace the tarmac on the cul-de-sac my mother lives on. And the street that leads to it. On Saturday morning. With no vans allowed. And less than three days' notice.

So now, yet again, I need to re-think my plans because of the ineptitude of others.

This whole debacle is never going to end, is it?
