Alas that the times that we're in
Leads many a guru to sin
Talk like that brings up the shade of Mamo quivering with outrage. Do you remember Honor's grandmother, Geraldine Plunkett? She started a one-woman movement, which since her death Tony Benn has continued, to STOP BLAMING THE PRESENT and by implication whitewashing the past.
As Mamo said, there was little or nothing good about the old days. The street children were barefoot and malnourished with sores on their faces.
Public and private morality were no fairytale either.
A movement is called for. As we head for our autumn years the temptation to express our envy of the young in the form of vituperation is going to get stronger.
