Beautiful article! Well deserved front-page today.
I've found two typoettes that with your permission I will submit to the Editorial Feedback page:
"who legend credits with converting the wild . . " -- should be whom. Legend credits *him*.
"able to diffuse an angry situation" -- should in my opinion be defuse; it may diffuse also, but defuse is more like what it appears to do.
The use of "they" after a singular verb I endorse, as a form of common gender pronoun.

Thanks, mate . I should have pursued those typos and irritating re-writes, but it was the week that I was really going through some heavy emotional stuff, and just didn't feel inclined to wage syntactical war on the editors. There were a few re-writes that bugged me, and didn't really improve the original text, but at least it may be of interest, and if people want to follow it up, the two references will lead them to a wealth of material.
So anything that you feel should be emended, go right ahead.
