Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. Also, quite interested in your suggestion about starting a new thread on the effects of abuse. It's such a common occurrence and I think it's important to see that there is positive as well as negative stuff that comes out of bad or traumatic experiences.
Not unlike how PYT ended up creating something quite lovely, although that obviously hadn't been his intention.
Are you planning to set this up?
Okay, time to go to bed soon. Like you I'm becoming a bit addicted to this site. But heck, beats watching tv (especially Spanish tv - ick!) and I get to exercise my brain a bit. AND meet some very nice people.
hasta pronto,
az

Dear Azahar,
I would set up the new thread if I knew how. Does it require a new journal entry, or should one just get stuck in at the foot of the Front Page article on abuse survivors. Yaaaawn. I must go to bed. This hootoo addiction has to be kept in check. Thanks for visiting.

hola chai,
The easiest way to begin a new thread is to go to the front page and on the right they have '5 busiest conversations' - the top one is usually one called 'ask the h2g2 community'. Then you simply click on that, then the 'discuss' thingy at the bottom of that page, pick a title and start off the conversation - just like PYT did a few days ago (so, that's how simple that is!)
Because a lot of people visit that conversation looking for new threads, it could be a good way to start. Also, if the thread keeps going it is always on the first page.
You can also ask the Peers to edit and publish a journal entry for the front page - but I have no idea how you do that. I think if you click on the long 'Peer Review' thingy at the top of all the pages then you get that information.
Okay, time for some
I just arranged for a 24-hour internet flat rate. Before h2g2 I was seldom on line before 6pm except at weekends (which is the basic flat rate I was paying for). Then last month! Yikes, the phone bill! I hadn't realized I'd spent so much time on-line. Hence, new flat rate thingy. Hmmmm. . .too bad one has to work and sleep . . .
see ya,
az

Hi AZ,
Thanks for the info. Internet time!!!!Scarey how quickly it passes when one has an interest in more than one thread. Work beckons, so from today I'm imposing strict limits on my own internet time. I dread the next phone bill, and that after only a couple of days.
So I'm not going to get into an abuse survivor thread until tonight at the earliest. Talk to you soon
Bye,
Chai

me again
Okay, let me know when you set this up. I would do it myself but I think you have this topic much better researched than I do - also you write better than I do - and so can present it in a way that will appear more interesting to others.
Last statistics I heard for sexual abuse is that one in three girls and one in five boys are subjected to this at some time in their lives. A very high percentage. And this only includes children experiencing sexual abuse - it doesn't include adults and other forms of abuse. HUGE can of worms.
I think it will be not only a very interesting thread but may also be helpful for people who might feel 'ashamed' of the abuse that happened to them. I've gone out on a limb twice now on h2g2 and mentioned my experience (in the Interracial Breeding and God-fact or fictions threads) and both times got quite interesting responses (including yours!). I'll admit I held my breath both times after posting this stuff as I wasn't sure how it would be taken. Also, it isn't something I tend to talk about except with close and trusted friends. On the God thread the abuse discussion actually carried on for a few pages - suddenly a lot of people also wanted to share their stories. Even a couple of people there that I'd previously thought were a bit 'hard-boiled', which quite surprised me. It's like once that door is opened people really really WANT and NEED to discuss this. Someone actually called it Hootoo therapy! I think that's nice, don't you?
Okay, must get back to work here.
hasta pronto!

Don't know if you're aware, but there is a healing chamber on the sister site 360:

Might be helpful.

Hi, Az and Z,
Hootoo therapy is indeed a pleasing concept, kind of balances out hootoo addiction. Thanks for your kind words, so here we go. Maybe it will just be enough to start a thread, but I'll go check on the responses to the Front Page abuse article first. It would be silly not to.

WHAT? Me - SLEEP??? Only in my dreams - ha ha!
Just saw your posting to me on the God thread - thought it best to answer you here.
Just go to the top of the page and in the search thingy type in 'abuse' - the thread you mentioned is at the top of the list. Am now going back to look at this stuff.
besitos,
