Gnomon - time to move on

I have a list of all the old "blobs", (four and a half thousand of them) but it's on my PC, not on h2g2. A lot of them are photos of people I don't recognise in pubs. But there are a lot of wowbagger's h2g2 Life cartoons among them.

I wonder sometimes about the treasures that must be hidden on hootoo - from long-forgotten conversation threads to the BLOBs and cartoons. I must have a trawl one day - when life slows down a bit ...

Have you ever been tempted to categorise the lists that you have?

I've been working on it for years. I've nearly looked at all the 4,500 pictures - only about 300 to go.

I'm sorry to have missed that London Meet. I'd like to have said hello to you in person again.

But I'm going to New York next week, and the budget doesn't extend as far as two holidays in two weeks.

Next London meet, we'll meet up then smiley - tea. I live here after all and have made a point of doing the impossible to attend the afternoon meets for at least two hours smiley - winkeye

Be well, be safe, we'll be waiting for the photos.

I think I'm done. Would you have a look? I have tweaked a few bits to make it flow faster in a couple of places. I felt that kept the latent humour moving a little more smoothly. Also the links. Some are a tad wacky. What do you think? Overdone?

I did Bob's entry on the Fosse Way and it took me 9 days. You might like to look at the way the entry ended up for comparison, and try and get yours to look something similar: A25829102.

Bob's entries are full of contradictions. I had to use GoogleEarth to identify all the places mentioned and to measure the distances between them. I even had to do a bit of web-based surveying to trace what I thought was the most likely route for the road at one point, since Bob appeared to disagree with every other reference on the web. Parish boundaries are great indications of the course of Roman roads, since they date back to before the railways. If they are in a very long straight line, the only explanation is that it was once a Roman road. And your Latin is probably better than Bob's.

Hi Wilma! I'm looking forward to meeting you next weekend. I know that last time we met I said very little, but I'm basically shy; I didn't like to hug you in front of all those people. I'll try not to be so reserved this time.smiley - smiley

True... as soon as I work out a way to come back on with the limited amount of time I have now. I can't decide whether to do a 'Gnomon' and concentrate on PR, dropping pretty much the whole of the more lighthearted chatty side of things or whether to jack in all my badges and just use hootoo to commnicate with friends. Neither feels entirely right smiley - sadface

Part of the problem is that there are weeks when I can't find an hour to sit at the pc... and that means that hootoo is pretty much going to have to be an ad hoc activity if at all. I miss my friends and PR equally and because I can't decide between the two, I am staying off line for now.

If you stop conversing with your friends, you will really miss them. h2g2 is supposed to be a friendly place, but it won't feel friendly if you don't talk to anyone. If you have to drop friends or Peer Review, then drop Peer Review. It'll survive and you can come back to it later when you've more time.

I thought about what you said and made my move. I have asked for my badges to be removed. Thank you, Gnomon. For the moment I can do no more than dip in every once in a while, and I will do that.

Hi Wilma. I'm glad you've made a decision, and I'm sure it's the right one. I look forward to being able to see occasional comments from you, but don't put yourself under any pressure. I hope that things change in your domestic life so that you can have more time to be yourself.
