Didn't you know? It's not a common 'smiley' but a custom effect based on the mood-rings and such of the 70s. It will reflect what you are needing or pondering most at the moment.

I do encourage some caution, obviously. smiley - evilgrin

Oh, 'Venus' is just the name she uses when she's mingling amongst us mortals. You know how these goddesses like to remain a bit aloof. smiley - whistle

By the time it's dark enough to watch for them, I'm usually settled in quietly for the night. I'd guess that the last time I did find an area without too much light pollution would have been about 20 years ago ...

It's dark enough here, but I'd have to go outside to watch them, and it's not really warm enough to spend the night outdoors.

This town isn't very large, nor have many 'industrial' areas. But they have switch mostly to the 'arc-lamp' type of street lights. They tend to flood more upwards, giving the whole area a diffuse but broad lighting. The upshot of it all is that even 5 or 10 miles away, you can see the glow of the town. It really diminishes veiwing anything but the very brightest of stars and occassional satelites. I've heard that the Scouts and such go about 20 miles north of town for the occassional sky-watching.

Oh, missed your last post there. My best friend is Dave, 62 years old and born in England. His Dad was Leonard, born here and flew with the RAF during WW2. He married two woman from Dewsbury, the first having given 2 sons before dying of meningitis. The 2nd wife came back to Canada with him, and delivered a 3rd son and a daughter. Anyway, that well-travelled and really good natured gentleman was diagnosed with liver cancer last November. Yesterday morning, weak as he was, he was still teasing his missus and a couple of the sons. Tired, he laid out for a nap ... The funeral service will be Wednesday.

I wouldn't have to go that far, but as I said, it's not warm enough, I've only just recovered from a cystitis, so I'm not going to take any risks. smiley - smiley
