I'm reasonably ,
and "Hello" to you, VIP. Nice of you to drop by!
Today I am in the proces of not liking the effects of yesterday's . Had a few with my mate Gabriel, who broke his leg a few weeks ago and desparately needed to get out of the house. So I wheeled him to a bar in Rotterdam and helped him sink a modest number of Belgians.
Came home too late and got up too early this morning. I'm getting too old for this...
I noticed you are a MuG member as well, do you play in a band or an orchestra (clarinet, wasn't it?) or anything?

That's cool, I would normally say "Break a leg" but seeing what that did to my mate...
Have a good time, then!
Is it anything big (like the Albert Hall, perhaps?)

Well, it is the Adrian Boult Hall, so it nearly has the same initials. No, it's one of the concert halls in Birmingham. A wierd accoustic, if I remember correctly. Hey well. Mind so, the AH is weird too. In fact, I don't like singing there much. You feel lke you're on your own. But then, it's a wonderful atmosphere to perform in the Albert Hall. So much history, and the most beautiful arena. Just a shame about backstage.

Hey Vip,
How did your concert turn out yesterday?
Was it a success?
Can you tell me some more about the music you play?

I study clarinet and early voice. I sing stuff from about the thirteenth century, and play whatever clarinet repertoire I can get my paws on.
Last night I was the bass clarinettist in Mahler's First Symphony.

Hello Vip,
I am impressed with the singing you told me about. I always thought the Chuck Berry songs I sing with my band were old .
Is there anywhere on the Internet where I can listen to a sample of 13th century singing? Or is it like the Gregorian chants that I know from watching Brother Cadfeal on BBC television?
The weird thing is that basically I am not really interested in classical music as far as listening to CD's is concerned. I always love, however, to watch people play, no matter what type of music it is, as long as it is sincere and played with passion.
A few years ago I stayed at a campsite in France that was on the grounds of a "chateau". Every Wednesday there was a classical concert at this manor house. I loved it so much that I went there for three weeks in a row. Lovely!
Cheers,
Terry

Oh wow! Sounds a beautiful place and atmosphere. That's one of the beauties of music, it can transcend all language barriers and be something that everyone can share.
It is indeed very similar to Gregorian chant. It is occsionally non-sacred, but that is quite rare, as the sacred was better looked after.
Plus, of course, I'm a female singer, which makes it sound quite different.
Hmm, places to hear it. I really have no idea. Try searching for songs by a lady called Hildegard (of Bingen). I don't know if there are any recordings on the 'net but there are recordings in the shops. There might be something.

Hey Vip,
I will ask my mate Leo to look for some recordings. Apart form being our drummer, he is also a editor and director with a children's TV programme (a bit like Blue Peter). He has acces to the Dutch National Audio Archives. There must be some samples in there.
Any change on an European Tour?
