Took my wife and my two year old daughter to Colchester Zoo yesterday.

They have a baby elephant, just two months old. Very cute.

I was torn with mixed emotions.

On the one hand for my daughter who absolutley loved it. She really enjoyed seeing these animals and had a brilliant time.

But on the other hand, while all the animals are kept very well, I could not help thinking that they really should not be cooped up in these places.

I suppose that most of them have lived all their lives in the zoo and would probably not survive in the wild.

It's certainly a dilemma.

I suppose what we should do is try to stop zoos replenishing their stocks. So that in time the domesticated animals will die and the zoos will have to close down.

But where else can you show a two year old a live tiger or elephant?

Hmmm....

Boloskinettinayzee!

My daughter, who is two and a half, loves spaghetti bolognese and whenever we have it we all say spaghetti bolognese in an italian accent.

Yesterday when the spag bol was being prepared Eleanor shouted boloskinettinayzee! The syllables ARE all in there somewhere.

The train pulled in three minutes early at my station this morning. I was greatly amused by the sight of various overweight commuters lolloping - they would have called it running - over the footbridge to catch it before it moved off.

I just strolled along not caring if the train went or not - There will be another along in fifteen minutes - However, I got to it with a couple of minutes to spare and wondered how many heart attacks there would be later on today as a result of the extra effort.

Went to buy a birthday card for my wife in a new card shop. It is huge - the shop - and on two floors. The idea presumably being that a shop that big must have a hell of a lot of cards. Here was a place where I was surely going to be able to buy the right card for my loved one.

I spent half an hour in there. I am certain that I looked at every single card. I even looked at the selection of musical mugs with your own personal message on.

I contemplated - but not for long - the purchase of a cuddly teddy bear that promised TRUE LOVE.

I was not tempted by the astonishing array of coloured metallic pens, balloons and candles.

Who would buy this rubbish?
