evolution facts list
Here is the evolution facts list that I posted on the BBC science boards.
Evolution:
1. Is an observed fact.
2. Is also a number of theories.
3. Is Science.
4. Is also scientific.
5. Is naturalistic and purely mechanistic.
6. Is falsifiable.
7. Is testable.
8. Is predictive.
9. Has been observed, in the field and in the laboratory.
10. Has occurred in the past.
11. Is still occurring.
12. Will continue to occur in the future.
Further, we can also note that the theory of evolution:
13. Is not atheistic (nor Communistic, Leninist, Stalinist, etc.).
14. Is not evil.
15. Is not a basis for morality (it is a description of life not instructions on how to live)
16. Is not a cosmological theory.
17. Is not a theory of the origin of life.
18. Is not a Religion.
19. Is not determined by popular opinion (as can be said of any science).
20. Is not a socio-political program or paradigm.
21. Is not dependent on the supernatural.
22. Does not claim that "Man came from apes".
23. Is not progress.
24. Has not, will not and cannot be proven (as can be said of any science).
25. Is not random nor does it rely on 'blind chance’ (as Dawkins said:” it is a matter of the non random survival of randomly varying replicators.”
26. Does not violate the second law of thermodynamics.
27. Does not deny the existance God/s and finally.
28. Falsifying evolution does not prove Creation.
The theory of evolution is used to describe the process of evolution.
The theory of evolution is under constant scrutiny and review and so far more empirical evidence has been shown to support evolution than has been shown to counter it.
In fact there is no evidence to counter it.
This evidence has stood up to peer review. As far as I am aware none of the various models relating to biblical creation, have yet shown any evidence to support them that has stood up to peer review.
If you have anything you think I should add or amend please let me know.
