Hi there alien747!!!
Shea the Sarcastic Started conversation Jan 28, 2003
I saw you joined the Thingites, and I thought I'd pop by your Space to say hi. Then I saw you hadn't been officially greeted! So, here I am to greet you!
My name is Shea, and I am an Assistant Community Editor (ACE). We're a group of volunteers that wander about welcoming and helping new Researchers. If you want to ask me a question, or need help with anything, just hit the "Reply" button and leave a message, I'll pop back in and help you in any way I can!
If you're interested alien747, I made a page with a list of links that you might like to check out. It's at A534953
If you ever want to talk to a Researcher, just click on their name. That will take you to their Personal Space, and you can leave them a message there (like I'm doing now!) by clicking on the 'Discuss this Entry' button.
That's about it for the official greeting part. Say hi to the green egg laying Mexican hens for me!

i feel much better now that i´ve been oficially welcomed - i was hoping that the bored snownin american kid who chickened out on the first serious question wasn´t the real thing - there are some things i´d like to know : Is there a corner at h2g2 to exchange sounds - the music room so to speak? Is there a possibility to place pictures - if yes what formates and size is possible ? How can i let the other users know that most questions about Munic area and sothern bavaria can be answered by me? - as well as questions about green eggs.
thank you for your time so far - i love to hear from you soon
greetings alien747

Hi again, alien747!
There isn't a place to exchange sounds as such, but there's a Musician's Guild you could check out: A423046 They might be just the people to see for sounds ... maybe ...
As far as Bavaria and green eggs are concerned ... have you considered writing Guide Entries about them? That way the information would be there, and when somebody did a Search for these things they could read your Entry, and ask any questions there!
You also might want to keep an eye on Ask the h2g2 Community: A148907 This is where people go to ask all sorts of questions; silly and serious! It's a fun place to go and read, and to put in your own if you feel so inclined. You might find someone asking about Bavaria and green eggs too ... ya never know!

all that after the serverdaemon trashed the system - more drinking at the cemetary, where i thought we would bury the serverdeamon once and for all, but shortly after the chainsaw accident of average joe the serverdeamon stroke back and wasted the longest entry - that was the last straw for me - i had to return to the real world - just to get lost in the salmon of doubt
Hi there alien747!!!

please excuse the wrongspellings - but i haven´t recovered fully
Hi there alien747!!!

I find that when I know I'm going to write something long, it helps to do it in Notepad or a word processing program. I've lost things too, and at least that way you have a backup.
You have my sympathy ... have a loobrush
Hi there alien747!!!

You are too kind,
Shea goddess of information and words like healing ointment
greatefull too - deeply
Hi there alien747!!!
alien747 Posted Feb 1, 2003
around here not even a week, I start suspecting to understand what you mean -
the complete loss of real timepassing, while online ,
the smile, that has not left your face, when then monitor is black for an hour already -
I´m surfing the net for not even 42 days - but since signing up, I hardly been anywhere else - still checking e-mails though and leaving a cry for help at smiling bens guestbook when the serverdaemon tried to throw me over the cliff of despair into the great grey pool of nothingness
bigsmile

It was awful when it disappeared without warning for *months* when the BBC took over! We were banished to Yahoo groups!
Hi there alien747!!!
alien747 Posted Feb 2, 2003
How come - h2g2 changed to the bbc? - was it for reasons of monitary funding, since I haven´t noticed any ads and no spam mail reached planet7 - who pays for all this?
If this topic brings back much too painfull memories just mail back the old shoe smilie (oh there isn´t) - well You´ll find a way
Hi there alien747!!!
Shea the Sarcastic Posted Feb 4, 2003
I think it mostly had to do with funding. The BBC pays for the whole thing. I get the impression they use it as sort of a test case for their other DNA sites, and it probably gets them a lot of traffic to their main sites!
Hi there alien747!!!
alien747 Posted Feb 4, 2003
bbc main sites?
since 8 days ago I´m kinda lost for the rest of the web - there is just too much to be explored here - and I´m quite confident, not to catch a virus or an ´´we will rip you off dialer´´ and ther´s a lot of smiling going on too
