No, not really.
Well, I didn't get soaked, which made a change.
That one was being held early. My other's don't start until the 19th. Went well though, which is good, as I wasn't sure.

That's good then Hope the others go just as well, and then when we're all done and finished we might be able to stretch our conversation a little further than the weather

Hope yours go well. My house was on the new yesterday, but that is probably the most interesting thing that happened recently that didn't involve work.
Ah well, everything should be a lot more interesting at the end of May.

Thank you
Oooh, what was it on the news for? Lemme guess... "Pretty girl talks to crazy fool on internet community site"? Or something else?
Hmmm, when my exams are over and done with I'm going to have to start finding a job! ARGH!

Unsuprisingly no.
Actually there was an armed robbery at the corner shop.
Well at least they'll be a shortage of future exams.

Oh no, was anyone hurt? *feels bad for making light...*
I somehow think Ill probably find something which involves exams. I have this feeling :-s

It was three weeks ago so was just on the news for a public enquiry. The shop assistant was hit over the head but she's alright.
There do seem to be tests or assesments of some sort in just about everything.
Hello there Unc
TeaKay Posted May 6, 2004
That's O.k then, I was feeling bad...
Yes, I even had a test to do when I applied for a job at McDonalds (only as a summer job, mind you- I lasted a blissful 6 weeks before I'd had well and truly enough).

I'm impressed you stayed for 6 weeks, I found it hard enough working in a hospital café during the summer. Too hot and monotenous.

TeaKay Posted May 7, 2004
I stayed for the 4 week probabtion period, and at the end they said I did very well and that they would like to keep me on, and then asked if I had any questions.
I asked how much notice they'd like.

To which the answer was two weeks?
I just had an interview and started the next day. They even gave me a week's holiday pay when I finished.
Hello there Unc
TeaKay Posted May 7, 2004
Yep
Well, Ihad an interview, then started, but you're not a full 'crewmember' until you've done the 4 weeks probabtion. Still get paid the same though.

I don't expect they'd get many applicants if they didn't pay the same during the probation period.

TeaKay Posted May 7, 2004
No, the wouldn't. It's a crap job, there's no two ways about it. But, having said that, when I was there, loads of the others loved it... admittedly they were mostly younger than me and had left school as soon as they possibly could with, on average, half a GCSE each... I suppose everyone has their niche. McDonalds wasn't for me, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I'm likely to find myself in a conversation with.

One of my housemates worked there over the summer and she certainly hated it. I guess it's a simple enough job which would appeal to some people.

TeaKay Posted May 7, 2004
Yes, like I said, everyone's got to be somewhere...
It's a whole new world though, when you meet someone who actually likes working at McDonalds. I don't mean to be predjudiced or anything, but it really is an eye opener. I couldn't hold a conversation with anyone who worked there full time purely because they didn't have the capacity for it. They were literally machines, communicating with grunts and not actually conversing about anything, just talking about how drunk they got at the weekend, and who's bed they woke up in.
I don't know if that's representative of McD's across the country, or more of a cross section of the area it was in. It's in Corby, which is one of the crappest areas in the country. It really is a heap.

I can't say I've ever had a conversation with someone who enjoyed working in McDonalds, it's a place I tend to avoid. During the summer though the woman who worked on the dishwasher had been doing the same job for fourty years. It was impossible to have a conversation with her, as all she seemed to want to talk about was the shortage of trays.

TeaKay Posted May 7, 2004
I avoid McDonalds mostly. Last time I went was a few weeks ago; the time before that being a couple of years at least. I didn't feel I'd missed anything by avoiding it...
I'd hate to get like that. I really hope that if I do, it's at least something fairly interesting that I become obsessed with.
But tray shortages... Is it possible to drop lower into mundanity?

I think I had some chips there once whilst stranded in Milton Keynes severel months ago, very hungry and with no where else open. The food isn't really worth eating and certainly not worth paying for.
I certainly don't want a job that involves such little variety. To be fair she would occasionally complain about the shortage of forks instead.

I had that new burger... whatever it's called. Big Tasty, I think. That was O.k, as far as McDonald burgers go in that it was actually in some way filling and didn't taste worse than the little foam box it came in. But it was still under par next to, for instance, bits picked out from under my fingernails.
No, me neither. I want to do something different every day.
Lol... dontcha just love the light of brain?
