My theory is...if I can work through the nights...preferably Sunday to Thursday...I'll sleep after work...do stuff during the afternoon...and still have my weekend...

you will get used to less sleep, bout 6 hours does me usually
trouble is when you're off work you'll wake up and want to go to sleep at inconvenient times and ocasionally sleep for about 16 hours

I suffer from bouts of hideous insomnia, so I'm used to a lack of sleep

yeh, ocasionally, usually when I've got something to do the next day I get insomnia. Usually give in, get up and read or go on the computer for a while

It's just something that I've had since I was 14 or 15...can't turn my brain off and I can't get to sleep...

what I hate is when I lie there worrying about things I just can't do anything about for hours on end. Pointless way to spend time. I'd rather get up, do something and be tired the next day

Yeah, that's the best way I've found these days !
If it takes me more than an hour to get to sleep, I'll read or write or something until I actually feel sleepy...
...having said all that, I don't know if I'll actuially get any sleep at all tonight 
!
