despite the name, i'm not really all that narcissistic. i AM somewhat ODD, as you will note if you click on my bio
so, are you like me in that you don't believe in the following?
God
intrinsic meaning or purpose in life
intrinsic good and bad
an afterlife
btw, San Diego rocks, unless you're not into the monotony of perfect weather 365 days per year.
i live in rochester, MN, so that sounds pretty good to me
peter out!
Thanks!

No God - check
No intrinsic meaning or purpose in life - check
No intrinsic good and bad - Hmm, ethics and morality. There is I think, but not in a spiritual/religious sense, but in a social sense.
No afterlife - check
I went home and visited England for 3 weeks in December. Believe me, I am FULLY appreciating the weather here. There is no monotony, the type of sunnyness just changes throughout the year.
peter out?, what, like fade away?

Thanks!

good you aced my test . i think of good and bad like you do.
peter out is like on star trek when they get done talking over their combadges. you know, like "picard out." i love ST TNG.
so, are you, like me, scared shitless about death? it being the absolute cessation of existence and all?
peter OUT!
Thanks!

I did? You cheekylittlesoandso, putting in questions trying to trip me up
But the good thing is, 'peter out' means to fade away too. I can imagine you at your keyboard typing away in a spotlight. You click 'Post Message' and slowly move away from the computer, fading out dramatically. I loved TNG when it was on. I've seen every episode at least three times now, so my interest has waned somewhat. What's Nemesis like?
Death? Well, when you were an infant (baby) you cannot remember anything, you only really started existing when you started remembering stuff. I see death as a return to that preconsciousness. If you have something (or in this case nothing) to look back on and go "that's what it'll be like" it becomes less frightening. Seems like I won't know the difference when I'm dead so f*ck it eh?

that's cool how you can say F**k it to death
that's bad-a*s
i think of life and death like you do.
billions of years
of non-existence -->
Life for an "instant" --> DEATH -->
non-existence AGAIN... forever? or until/if the universe ends in a Big Crunch...
but, i can't imagine what it WAS like before i was around 4 yrs old. it seems logical that the state of non-existence pre and post life are identical, but to me it's still unimaginable...
so, i guess i'm a bit more of a pansy when it comes to death
regarding ST TNG, i haven't seen Nemesis, but i've heard that it sucks. so, you'd probably have to st tng to like nemesis
btw, my fave tng episodes include "cause and effect" when the enterprise is stuck in a time loop and keeps getting destroyed and "clues" when data has to cover up a ploy to make the enterprise crew think they were knocked out for 30 seconds by a wormhole, when, in fact, an alien race called the Paxons rigged the whole thing to protect the secrecy of their existence...

It's not macho, just not overly concerned. I'm sure that when I start to get older and feel more mortal, and start to lose people close to me it will hit home more...
The best TNG episodes are always when there's been some rupture in the space-time continuum or whatever and there's all these wierd time dilation effects going on etc.

i'm kinda like you, then... i am effectively blocking death...keeping it out of my consciousness...
and you're right about the best TNG episodes.. i love those ruptures in space-time...kick a$$
and the worst episodes are the ones with any kid [like alexander] and any one with troi as the main character.
Key: Complain about this post
