Sho - employed again! Posted May 13, 2006
what is a performance contract?
I'm in a similar position to TC and I _know_ my lot would hold me to 3 months notice (although I would be sorely tempted to get my doctor to wite me off sick for the last 6 weeks with stress)
Unfortunatly, I can't afford to quit without another job. And now that has just started a new one, I can't do anything until his probationary period is over.
But mentally, I think I have resigned already.
Good for you, Teuchter!

Teuchter, just quit already and flick the consequences. Who cares?
Move on . . .

If performance contracts are in any way similar to performance reviews, then I'm with you 100%. Man, such a bloody chore... Give people praise or call them up at the time. The charade of the performance review is onerous to say the least. All my working life I've been with American companies, and I still can't really get my head around this shite.
If you are thinking of taking a quick holiday T, this green lump of rock to the West would welcome you with open arms!

She can come to me first!
Lots of lovely stuff to do and see here.

How lovely to feel so welcome in so many places
The only snag is that with reduced income comes reduced horizons
I've spent some time this morning looking at the Performance Contract, not quite managing to stop my lip from curling.
I'm going to go to the meeting with stuff written down - then I won't forget anything and then all I'll have to do is stand my ground and not burst into tears.
I take Az's point about just getting on and doing it - but if I feel I've let someone down I then have to cope with all the bad feelings that come along with that.
Thanks for indulging me in this particular bit of navel-gazing.

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013 Posted May 15, 2006
Have you thought about a total change of direction? There is a woman I see at my aquafit class that got made redundant when she was in her 40s. She decided to dump the indoor jobs to be a freelance garden designer and says it is the very best thing she ever did
*offers a to Teuchter to use for girding her loins before the meeting*
Great idea to go with it all written do

At the moment - a job on a supermarket checkout seems rather appealing.
I've thought about changing direction - but I'm actually rather good at what I do, given sufficient time and resources to do it; in the right setting, I love what I do.

That is good, so at least it is clear for you that it is the employer/circumstances of the current job, rather than actually what you do, that is making you unhappy.

Yes. Liking the actual work makes a huge difference. It sounds like you might be happier in a private practice where you'll have enough time to spend with each patient.
I'm relieved to learn that there are lots of jobs in your field.

Well - there was me, all psyched-up and ready to go. And it turns out the boss decided we would have a practice meeting about the performace contracts so she could explain things.
So we still have the whole blinkin' palaver to go through. She's so stressed at the moment that my resolve to resign is waning - which is just stoopid since I'll be feeling crap about things again in another few weeks.
Poop.

stay strong
I'm also thinking a part-time Aldi job would suit me to the ground. I wonder if they have vacancies...

Teuchter, can you make a list of the things that are bothering you and discuss it all with her. Let her know that if things don't improve, you're going to have to resign for your own sanity?

azahar Posted May 18, 2006
Just get outta there already. You know this is what you really want to do. Don't let anyone *guilt* you into staying. Trust me, they'll find someone else to lay all that shit on after you've gone.

I just realised - it took me two years to get mad enough to actually resign. I did it last week and will be outta there by the end of August.
