hi charliebaby!
jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada) Started conversation Jan 21, 2003
I spotted you on Terri's 'Eyes' page, the other day, just thought I'd do the neighbourly thing, & pop by. Y'know, to say 'hi', 'welcome aboard', maybe offer you a , & some ...or, perhaps some ?
So, a Music Graduate, hmmm?? Which type, or types of music do you prefer? I lean toward the more contemporary varieties, myself. My favourite types would be Jazz & Blues (which includes R & B, & Motown.) In fact, I'm lucky enough to get at least 1 night, of one or the other, once a week. I volunteer at a local Jazz & Blues club, http://www.yardbirdsuite.com , so, I get a good variety - free! Throw in a few 1/2 price Guinness (or other drinks), at the end of the night...very !
Anyway, feel free to drop by my space, if you like. If ever you want to discuss music, I mean, I'm not a Graduate, but I'd be willing to talk. Ciao!

First & foremost, let me say so-o for not getting back to you sooner! If you remember I'd welcomed you shortly after you had registered. It's just that 'inactive' conversations or threads tend to get pushed into the background (so to speak) by newer ones, & of course R(eal)L(ife) always has its distractions too. The major 'distraction' I had this past winter was a bout of pneumonia...I'd had it before, so I'm much more susceptible . Fortunately, my gave me some very effective medication & it was gone in about a weeks' time.
Soo, how was your winter in Sheffield? It is Sheffield, isn't it? I was going throughh my backlog of old conversations, to see which I could delete & I came across this one...which I had totally forgotten about! So I made a point of getting a reply off to you today. Hope your new year has gone well so far, & you're enjoying spring weather there.

Good to hear from you!I'm doin' ok, we've finally got nice spring weather after a long winter. So you like the heat, do you? Don't imagine I'll be tanning for awhile, don't seem to tan too easily.

oh, and i dont know if you are into writing music yourself.......
I love composing, and ive written some (whcih I think!) are pretty cool pieces. Sorry, im babbling now. But im so boorredd! Not a good situation
hi charliebaby!
jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada) Posted Apr 4, 2003
No, I've gotta agree, bein' bored is not a good situation ! The only I compose is in my head, sometimes . Have to agree, waitin' around can get s-o-o boring! Thats the kind of situation when you want to start composin' a tune 'cos theres nuthin' else to do! Needn't apologize luv, you weren't really babbling...or if you were you've got a valid excuse - boredom!!
Now me, I'm babblin', but its like that mental diahrhea thing, where your mind's goin' & you can't stop it! Just kind of a slow mornin' here, but I have got some things to do, then 2 nights of free live music! Tonight & Sat., we've got a couple Americans, a sax player & a guitar player comin' to the club. They'll be playin' with a local rhythm section. Should be good music!

Ello!
Well. weekend was bad. . But hey, its Wednesday, and thats always a reason to be glad!
Wanted to go to Glastonbury this year, but theyve sold out of ticketes within the first few hours, grr. Ive not been to festival before, only gigs and stuff. The best one I went to was for a band called Coldplay, u know them?
Hows it going at the club you work at, the jazz one? I think Im gonna have to move to London or something and really get into a proper music scene. theyve got some great clubs there
hi charliebaby!
jaz'd(ace & yada yada *sigh* chocolate yada) Posted Apr 9, 2003
Yes, actually just had some news aboutan upcoming Coldplay show here...although I can't say just when...Ozzy's comin' too, but not til June.
Yeah, things're goin' well at the club. Actually, speakin' of the London Clubs, I've got a Dizzy Gillespie CD recorded at The 606 Club.

Splendid! Quite a fan of female vocalists, in fact, a Jazz vocalist who was living here (has now moved to Texas), does a great radio program she calls 'Voices In Jazz', in which she explores some of her favourites & examines vocal contributions of others (not to mention, any new & interesting treatments of standards.)
hi charliebaby!
charliebaby Posted Apr 10, 2003
Sounds good. Where I live there's only really one radio station that deals with Classical/Jazz etc, called 'Classic FM'. Unless I was in London or nearer I cant get 'Jazz FM' etc, shame really.
Youve got a wide knowledge of music, is jazz your main favourite then? I seem to know dribs and drabs about everything, more about classical tho cos thats what ive studied
Yeah, my first pupil is gonna be an 8 year old, I love teaching kids. Ive done a bit of teaching before but then I moved to Sheffield and so stopped. But im gonna be here for a bit now so can try a bit harder!

Oh had a phone call. But, yeah, Jazz is a primary interest...I've even started buying an American magazine called The Jazz Times, so I'm pretty much immersed in the 'Jazz world'...just wondering, are you able to listen online at all? JazzFM has an interview with Nina Simone...but, you've probably heard that.
