ok, so blicky managed to drag it out of me - it's the 3rd of Jan 2005 here (barely) and I've only just had to say Happy New Year to someone for the first time this year The friends I've seen in the past few days are all rabidly anti-cheerful, and I've cleverly managed to avoid my family and any other overly sentimental folk. But now that I've done it once I can probably join in
I'm woefully behind on keeping up with my personal convos on h2 at the moment, so to everyone on my friends' list, and those passing through, wishing you the all best for the coming year etc.
I probably have something much more interesting to say, and there was a post somewhere in me about missing my 2nd hootoo anniversary on 25/12, but maybe suffice to say that my life in 2005 looks like it might be complex and grand enough to keep me sane, satisfied and sometimes even happy.

My day off thread

Aren't pyjamas great?!
I love coming home after a hard day and putting on my pyjamas for the evening. They're just so comfortable. It's more than that though - something unexplainable that all daytime pyjama wearers know. I don't actually wear them when I am sleeping (they're too baggy and uncomfortable in bed) but they're brilliant for lounging around in. They seem to change one's frame of mind too - signals to the brain that all effort must cease and only activities of ease and pleasure are to be entertained.
Today I put them on when I got up and would be happy to stay in them all day except I have to go round to the dairy (not that I'm above wearing my pyjamas to the shop, but you have to be in the right mood for that. Besides it's raining quite heavily and pyjamas aren't really the best wet weather gear).
The other thing about today is that it is snowing down to 600 metres in the South Island (well the inland bit anyway). What's strange about that is that we are less than 4 weeks from the Summer solstice. Actually it's not totally unusual - it's been known to snow on Christmas day. We just feel like it's strange because it's the start of Summer.
I have a big pile of videos from all this new British TV drama - Trust (a city lawyer drama) and Serious and Organised (police drama), plus an old series of Teachers (teaching drama ). I'm in the first quarter of Barbara Kingsolver's Prodigal Summer (a reread).
The phone is turned off.
And someone is coming to do the dishes this afternoon. Bliss.

F*ck

I've just had the most seriously stressful day I've had in about 4 years. I'm not going to go into it right now because I'm too braindead to make much sense, and it seems complicated to write about. But I thought I'd post this in case someone wants to come by and cheer me up.
The bad news is that I ate too much sugary things today so I don't feel like my body can cope with a beer. The good news is I have a big plate of pasta, the first globe artichoke of the season smothered in olive oil, and this week's episode of Six feet Under (I'm sure that'll cheer me up ).

For the lean times...

I keep finding all these curious and interesting things on h2 when I don't have the time to read them. So this is a journal entry to try and keep track of them (ha ha ha*).
(*The favourites list in my browser has long since disappeared under the weight of multiple folders named variously 'to be filed', 'to check out' etc. My desktop likewise has many such objects, albeit nicely contained now in a folder called oi!!!.)
1. A2576306 Sex, Drugs, The Universe and Everything - an entry written by Yoz U47 , one of h2's founders (see also his PS).
A2580932 The Campaign for Real Conversation
Feel free to comment if really necessary, but please don't engage in lengthy conversations in this thread, or the links will soon become lost (and kea will get grumpy).
