Hello Galen.

smiley - erm I think I'd better take that as a compliment, given that I don't know your definition of "cool". I don't wear shades though. smiley - winkeye

IT (deliberately misinterpreting this as information technology) is going just fine in the sense that I've managed some more successful program modifications this evening. On the other hand the internet/h2g2 has been atrociously slow and the new software (someone else's commercial stuff) I tried to install, kept failing to run and trashing its installation and even its uninstallation. I've run out of enthusiasm with it for now which is why I went back to doing some of my own stuff. It's so much more reliable. smiley - biggrin

I'm not sure whether or not we have met on another thread. I'm not very good at keeping track of such things but I don't get around very much (other than ACEing and Guruing). I doubt that we've met in real life though since I'm a bit of a hermit there too. smiley - weird

that sounds cool, IT is a very interesting subject, one of which i am considering going into in college....
i really doubt that we have met in real life, i dont get out much
i figure that we must have seen eachother in a thread somewhere. it was you PS that attracted my attention, it just looked neat and you look like someone i figure i would have met(ie: same interests etc...) around and it just looks spiffY!

sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, things have been pretty busy recently what with AP exams and school and stuff

I don't have to do school any more (though I do occasionally help out with some). Exams are fairly important, so it's good you chose to be busy with those. smiley - smiley Although they are really only for impressing other people and it is the knowledge which is actually important, not many of the people you will need to impress realise that. smiley - erm

If there is something else you are considering studying at college, eg maths and sciences, then I think you should do that instead. IT is something which you can easily do in your own time and nothing much worthwhile is taught in courses that you couldn't figure out for yourself. However, if the alternative is domestic science, media studies or something like that then I'd go with the IT. smiley - biggrin

I suppose you must have clicked on my nickname link in a thread then - unless you go round looking at PS's at random. smiley - winkeye

That sounds like a sensible plan so far - assuming you care about my opinion anyway. smiley - biggrin

Have you "met" RhoMuNuQ? I think you share some interests and ought to get on. On the chemistry side, you might like to talk to Iridium too.

There you go with the "cool" thing again. smiley - erm How do you know that my body temperature is lower than that of the average human (and that I have been declared dead or undead by various people)? I know NASA went in for the full remote body-monitoring kit but most people only have web-cams. smiley - biggrin

It's actually quite interesting that "cool" should still be considered to be a young and rebellious word. Many words don't have a very long shelf-life as popular sayings. Things like "fab" came and went. I doubt that "hip and happening" is still hip and happening. I think "lush" was the "in" word for a while. Even "hot" didn't seem to last as well as "cool" has - though it does have a sub-section of application where it remains in popular use.

Perhaps I should slip into P.G.Wodehouse mode and say: righty-ho old fruit, cool it is.

smiley - laugh well hip is atill considered a funny word to say... though not many people at all that i know use it regularly... hot is def still around but is used to describe sexiness. the application of the word may have changed though... i would not know!

righty ho? if i may inquire, what generation are you from?

That's actually quite a difficult question to answer since I don't really seem to belong to a particular generation. I've been 8 going on 80 ever since I was a baby. When I was chronologically a baby, people found me to be scarily old. Now that I'm older, people still find the mixture confusing. My body is also not ageing at a normal or uniform rate. In some ways I look very young but at the same time I have problems normally associated with old age. So I don't fit convincingly into any mental or physical age categories. My chronological age appears to be almost entirely irrelevant.

that sounds quite interesting....is that 'just the way it is' or is there some sort of documented reasoning for this?are you now younger seeming also? i have always looked extra young for my age. the other week or so i was at a store trying on suit jackets and the lady asked me how old i was... before i could answer she guessed 'preteen?' and i was like, no 17smiley - grr

The mental age aspect is because of my extremely high IQ (I learned to read around age 1 and taught myself to write soon after) and not sleeping much even as a baby. So I got round to working out life the universe and everything much sooner than most humans. The physical aspect is a matter of genetics - mixing youthful old age from my mother and premature ageing from my father (though in a much more extreme form). You get what you get. What you do with it is another matter.

I can see how being thought to be younger than you are at school age must be annoying. You may gain some advantage from it if it persists into later life though because people are very superficial and ageist. These days that leans more towards youth even in employment. Middle-aged people, or those who attract attention by looking their age, are more likely to be made redundant. If you are still in the early stages though, you may have trouble with bars and clubs (especially in the USA).

i do not have to worry about bars and clubs yet... but it may pose a problem. at present it worry's me that future employers will think i am too young to be working... for instance.... i always seem to get the, 'how old are you' and then some disbelief when i tell them. and then they say they are not looking for new employees...
