Hello smiley - biggrin

How'd you fancy helping me write an entry on Clive Barker for the guide?I was totally shocked that there isn't one already! (nor is there on the Amytiville horror but that's a different story or rather entry)
So i thougt d write one..but i's terribly unconfident with structuring
stuff like that (it comes out like the garble i think in smiley - laugh) and i couldnt think of anyone else on here who also likes Barker so i thought you might like to give me a hand smiley - biggrin
I might even be able to chat up a sub ed to go over it if it ends up any good.

yeah, suresmiley - ok i don't know too much about Barker yet but anything you need i can get off the netsmiley - biggrin

as for the Amityville entry, i am currently researching the whole conspiracy theory with that one cos i wanna include that in anything i write. it could be a long entry or a couple of installments. not sure yetsmiley - huh

so, what exactly did you have in mind for the focus of this entry on Barker?

oh you was actually gonna do an entry on Amytilive? Great! ..we were looking for one the other night n theres nothing at all! you'd have to write it objectively though giving both sides..ive got Jay Ansons book here if it would be any help.

As for Barker there'll be a bit of research invlved to have enough detail for an entry.. but y'know a bit about his background, what hes wriiten, the movies etc.

what you doing here today anyway?

just thought i'd catch up on some blog whilst i have timesmiley - ok

no, don't worry about the book, i got about 12 sites to research from.

i was gonna do the story we all know and love/hide behind the couch from, and then perhaps the best way would be a seperate entry describing the conspiracies.

sorry if i simpost ya, but i just thought of the perfect way to start your entry.

start it with the comments from a couple of select authors like Herbert and King. you know the ones on the back cover where they ask them what they think of this author..

'terrifying! absolutely shocking!' J. Herbert

like thatsmiley - biggrin

But as you say the conspiracys are only theories..the guidelines state that entries that are more or less personal beliief or one sided cant be put in the guide smiley - sadface If however you were to write a well balanced entry..caled say..The Amytiville horror..Truth or Conspiracy? ..looking at the both sides of the coin..it'd probably not only make a really great entry but have a good chance of being edited.

S'ok ..i do it all the time smiley - laugh
I only pretend to be smiley - cross

I always thought Stephen King's was the best one ..'I have seen the future of horror and his name is Clive Barker '..what a compliment!

Someone else once described him as being able to 'sprain your imagination' smiley - laugh

I'll look up some bits n bobs at the library(might need a little help with that) and try n get it into an outline..then if you could go over it
for grammar n stuff n add anything thatll make it look a bit better(im a terrible writer!..which is a shame cos i couldve written a novel of ideas by now) that'd be great smiley - ok

well, the wonderful thing about writing about the supernatural is it is all personal belief. especially this one, half the world believes it, half the world don't. i was gonna do the entry in a format with half the story making you think,'yeah, that really happened' but the other half going 'or maybe not', cool ehsmiley - ok

but i will look at those guidelinessmiley - winkeye

anyway, what you need for Barker?

Yeah thats sort of what i meant..so that you come acros as unbiased about it but still make others think smiley - cool

what would i need to start with let me think... something about that world fantasy award, a bit more about his theatre writing background, the books(what years) (i probably dont know ,remember all the titles )and the same for the films (ill probably di quite a bit big on 'Hellraiser')..thats all i can think of at the mo..

that's a pretty good startsmiley - ok

i got some of that info to fil the gaps:

Clive Barker, writer, producer, novelist, director, and playwright, was born by Cesarean section at 1:00 am on October 5, 1952, near Penny Lane, Liverpool. He first realized he could scare people with his words telling stories around a campfire with fellow Boy Scouts when he was ten years old. It gave him “a lovely sense of power.”

He started out writing and directing plays for a fringe theater company he formed in London, producing works such as “Frankenstein in Love,” “The History of the Devil,” and “Colossus,” a play about his favorite painter, Goya. These plays often delved into the erotic, the fantastical, and the horrific, themes that he would later become known for in his literary work. Many of his plays have been collected in two books, Incarnations and Forms of Heaven.

In his spare time, Barker wrote short horror fiction, not expecting to be able to sell it. However, the first publisher he showed it to asked for more, and his stories were published in three volumes in 1984, under the title, The Books of Blood. Moderately successful in Great Britain, the Books found wide critical acclaim in the United States, and now appear in over a dozen languages.

By 1987, two of Barker's stories had been adapted into movies — Rawhead Rex and Underworld. He was highly dissatisfied with both of them, and decided to direct something himself. The result was an adaptation of his story The Hellbound Heart — a film called Hellraiser.

Today, Barker's Seraphim Films is involved in CD-ROMs, live theater and art, as well as film and television production. Barker has done everything from major motion pictures for Universal to creating a line of superhero comics for Marvel called Razorline.

obviously we will have to restructure it else we'd just be plagerisingsmiley - erm and i doubt you need it all but it's interesting none the lesssmiley - bigeyes

you can use as many quotes as you like as long as you reference to them bei8ng quotes and don't leave them to be looked at as your own work.

it is just better not to rely heavily on quotes if we have so many facts in front of us. i will just go look up that awardsmiley - ok
