Our Shopping Trip
Posted May 27, 2003
Well the pink and day-glo yellow, plastic guitar finally died so we decided the munchkin needed something to replace it. This morning we headed down to the local music store to look at the ukeleles. There were two types to choose from. An obviously good quality wooden one and $120 odd and a cheap ones model @ $29. The cheap one came in several colours. The choices were white, red, green, yellow, and orange. I let her choose. She said white. I asked if she was sure and she said yellow. So I went to the counter and said we needed a yellow ukelele and they understood. They didn't have one in a box so we got a discount on the display model.
My daughter is now the proud owner of a bright yellow ukelele! It is something to behold!!
It is tunable and it changes note when you hold down the strings - this may not surprise anyone, but it is remarkable as the pink and day-glo yellow thing was not and did not. She will learn about strings and vibrations, etc as she plays.

Lady Lynda
Posted Mar 25, 2003
I have only recently learnt of the death of Lady Lynda of Turmish. I have not known her for long but her enthusiasm was contagious. She was very friendly and wanted to create a circle of friends - The Ladies' Circle. I think she would have made quite a big impact on hootoo had she been allowed the time.
Lady Lynda
RIP

On making snails and dragons and being stupid
Posted Mar 15, 2003
Today as well as running away to the study to get some time to myself. I have found myself doing all sorts of things like making boxes into snail shells and dragon heads - I'm very proud of the dragon. These craft activities have usually been prefaced by the phrase "Mummy, Mummy, Mummy."
I have also failed to programme my mother's new remote control simply because neither of us read the instructions properly. Can we read the line "press and hold the MAGIC button" and take in more than the the word press. And for real, it does have a button labelled MAGIC!! Anyway she should have it working by now as I got onto the company's website and looked at the frequently asked questions. One of the questions didn't make sense until I read that line properly.
And I'm getting presents from China tomorrow. Even better I'm getting my man back

Late Night Ramblings
Posted Mar 14, 2003
I've been spending this week as a lone parent - and been feeling pretty sick at times - thank God for Grandma. My mum has been wonderful. She can help without interfering, in fact I would been happy for even more help. Some mollycoddling for poor little me.
I've really enjoyed listening to tonight's thunderstorm and rain - even the hail was all right. I'm no longer afraid that the rain will stop and not come back for months. It feels good to expect rain.
I'm really looking forward to my man coming home on Sunday. He's the best in the world and I miss him heaps. Mini-he misses him too.

Rain - Hooray
Posted Mar 8, 2003
I got caught in the rain at an outdoor food festival today. Funny thing was no-one was unhappy about the rain. Even in a drought you expect someone to grumble. But no, everyone was perfectly happy wondering why we haven't been planning more big outdoor events to bring the rain.
