Hi Bev
Nice to meet you. How's life up in sunny Scotland?
What do you do when you're not surfing the web? I'm a student from Leeds. What do you like to do when you go out? Do you like going to pubs and clubs, or are you more of a culture vulture? I must say I like both - whatever the mood (and my wallet!) takes me.
ttyl, Liz

Hey Liz
I'm grand thanks!! I lost my password a few weeks back but have found it again!!
I love going out to pubs and clubs when my purse allows but I just sit online most of the time due to being skint most of the time!!
How's life in Leeds?

Hi Bev
I've had a similar problem regarding passwords. I joined 'h2g2' last year, then got distracted by Uni work. When I came back to it, I'd totally forgotten my password - in the end I had to set up a new personal space!
I'm not in Leeds at the moment, actually. I'm studying for a BA German degree there which includes having to spend one year in a German-speaking country - so here I am studying at University in Germany! I'm here for the full academic year, which started in Oct and ends in July. It's rather a doss really, seeing as I can take whichever courses I like and don't have to take any exams this year. The German obsession with order gets to me a bit at time, but I've met some really cool people here and made some good friends. I'll be sorry to have to say goodbye to them in July (though I can always go and visit them!).
What is it that you do to earn a living?
I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year. I had a really nice time. I went back to the UK for the vacation, spent Christmas with my family and then went to Birmingham to spend New Year with my boyfriend. It was nice to have a couple of weeks at home - but I guess it's nice to be back in 'Deutschland' too.
Went out this evening to buy train tickets for our trip to Copenhagen. One of the best bits about my year abroad has been all the traveling - as well as going round Germany, I've been to Milan and Amsterdam. Have you traveled round Europe much?
Take care, ttyl,
Lizzy

Hey Lizzy
Oh lucky you - spending a year abroad. I wouldn't mind doing that but it would take a fair bit of organising with my mortgage etc.
At present I work for a charity. I am the "IT guy" for South East Scotland but I am looking for a new position as our offices are moving and it is just a little too far away for me! I've been working here for over 5 years now so it's definitely time for a change!
I had a good Christmas, I spent Christmas Day with my family and went to visit a friend in the Scottish Borders on Boxing Day. I spent New Year with some friends and then all too soon, it was time to come back to work!!
I've not travelled to many places in Europe (with the exception of Spain and the Balerics for sun-filled holidays) but I was lucky to spend a week in Amsterdam a good few years back. It's one of my favourite cities, so laid back and beautiful. I didn't want to come home. I've not been back since but plan a weekend there soon - just to visit my old haunts and see if everything is still the same!
What are your plans for the weekend? Due to limited funds I don't think I will be going to the pub and it's so cold here, I can't see me venturing out anywhere but I'm looking forward to a long lie anyway!
Speak soon, take care
Bev

Hey Bev
Is it snowing in 'sunny' Scotland? It's been very cold here in Germany ever since I returned on Jan 4, with snow on the ground. Glad to hear you had a good Christmas. Did you celebrate New Year in traditional Scottish 'Hogmanay' style? (sorry if I've misspelt it! ). I've always wanted to go up to Edinburgh one New Year for the Hogmanay celebrations, they look fantastic. I love Edinburgh. I considered going to University there but unfortunately the course they offered was too classical.
I was just recently in Amsterdam, actually - I visited it for the first time just before Christmas, when I went on a day excursion organized by the Anglistics Dept at my Uni. It's a really cool city and I had a great time while I was there. Since I went with the University I left off the herbal delights and opted for the cultural ones instead, going to the Anne Frank house and the modern art museum. Would you like to visit more of Holland? I like it so much I think I'd like to go and live there for a year or two, though probably not in Amsterdam. It's a wonderful city but I'm not sure if I'd want to live there because it's a bit tinky-trashy for the tourists, and unlike somewhere like London it's not really big enough to just swallow it up so as not to really make any difference to the place.
My friends and I are also rather low on funds at the moment, so I think we're going to stay in and watch a movie. I can't wait until next Tues - by then my check for this term should have cleared, woohoo!
Hope you're having a great weekend, ttyl, Lizzy

Hey Lizzy - hope you've had a good weekend!!!
It was snowing here during the week but it's all away now, it's very, very cold though!!!
I've had a really quiet weekend, haven't done much at all but it's been good to laze about all weekend. Next weekend I have 2 friends comeing to stay so I decided I'd better try and behave this weekend and get some sleep etc as I'll definitely get none next weekend!!!
I didn't go into Edinburgh on Hogmanay - I live nearby but I went to a friends house in Fife. Edinburgh is very good but it's very cold and if you are only 5 foot like me, it's very easy to get squashed! LOL!!
What does this week hold for you then? I've got a job interview on Tuesday but other than that - no plans as yet!!!
Bye for now
Bev

Hey Bev
Yes, I had a very good weekend, thank you. Like you my weekend was pretty quiet (though pleasant ) but that was probably a good thing because I've got a very heavy weekend planned this week, too. Some American buddies and I are taking a trip to Copenhagen: we're leaving VERY late on Thurs night and will be return ca. 8am Monday morning. I'm really looking forward to it, as I've never been to Denmark before. I've looked it up on lonelyplanet.com: things that look worth seeing are the Tivoli Gardens, the Danish Crown Jewels and the Latin Quarter (apparently there is one! ). I think I'd like to take a boat trip too and see the Little Mermaid. If there's a Hans Christian Anderson museum I'd quite fancy visiting it as well.
It's still pretty cold here and the snow hasn't melted yet. It's not too bad though, as I've got a good coat, scarf and gloves and the piece de resistance - a thermal-lined hat! I haven't really got anthing much planned until I go away Thurs night, just the usual: class, preparing for class, going out and drinking beer, you know. Which job are you going for an interview for? Lots and lots of luck with your interview, anyway!!!
Oh yes, and thank you for telling me that it's very easy to get squashed at Hogmanay in Edinburgh. Being only a mere 5' 3" myself, it'll be very valuable to me if I do go one year!
Take care - talk to you soon!
Lizzy
