Math - Playing Devil's Advocate

Nothing mutch happening, as if there ever is in this existance I call a life, read a good book the other day, Prey by Michael Crichton, though in some aspects it reminded me of the green brain and something else I can't recall the name of also featuring insects heavily, not that prey has much connection to insects, but it does have a whole load of tech, nano tech to be specific, and it behaves similarly to insects. Anyway good book, even if I recognise some of the ideas from elsewhere, that could be me and my cynical view that nothing is ever entirly new, always based on some previous idea, an expansion on a previous thought, or correction of something previously thought flawed, whatever I'm cynical, some of the time... most of it I guess.
Also read The Business, Whit and Complicity, all three by Iain Banks, all very good. I recomend those three to anyone who enjoys reading. Every so oftyen I think I should do an extra page to my space, a library of sorts, with a list of books I've got, or read not sure which would be better, anyway to continue, the idea being to give my view on each, might also be useful for me to have a catalogue. However, I'm pretty lazy and I doubt anyone would take the time to read it, and even if it was read would anyone take any notice of my recomendations ?

I'm sure I read these somewhere recently but they are worth repeating just incase anyone here hasn't hear/rtead them, I'll carry on regardless; there are a number of things peopel that make no sense but that are still said, anyone know where they come from ?

This country's going down the tubes.
- Darn big tubes to fit a whole country, or is it lots of litte ones and the country is being broken down or something, and where do these tubes lead to, what sort of waist disposal sistem can cope with an entire nation ?

Whats up ?
- Usually ceiling or sky, depending on if I'm indoors or not, isn't it a dumb question...

I know there are more, I just can't think of them at the moment, I'll probably thing of a few just after I hit the post button, but there's nothing new in that now is there...

The needle returns to the start of the song
And we all sing along like before.."

I think I'm running out of things to type, why I'm doing this I haven't yet figured out, but I guess I like to imagine that the pointlessness of existance is reduced by sharing it... nah more like I want to drag the world down to my level of boredom. Back to an earlier point I'm not sure I have ever had a truly original idea, I can usually with a bit of thought find what I based the idea upon (sometimes I can't, but someone else will). Has anyone reading this had a truly original idea, something that as far as can be determined hasn't been thought of before ?

I guess I'd better stop before I scare you all off...

What's Up?
Up is the direction oposite the one in which you are pulledby gravity.

It takes a lot to scare me off.

Good answer on whats up, but what about in freefall, satellites are in free fall and with such a person is weightles, but still under the influance of gravity, else what is keeping the satellite in orbit, yet the have no easily defined personal sense of up...

not easily scared... is that an invite to continue oin my inane rambelings ?

Is quarter to 4 in the morning the wrong time for breakfast tea, does it really matter as I only have earl gray left at the moment ? and perhaps more importantly would you like a smiley - tea ?

Hi Matt

There really is no such thing as freefall rather it is the conservation of momentum due to there being no other force acting upon the object to slow it, also in that state up would be the derection of travel no matter what the orentation of the object don't you think? smiley - smiley But I guess you would have to be the object to know.

smiley - cheers

It's always a good time for breakfast smiley - tea, after all, as the great prophet wrote: Time is an illusion, and lunchtime doubly so.

Keep writing your ramblings, then I won't feel badly about writing mine.

When there is no gravity, there is neither up nor down, a situation familior to the men of the Grand Old Duke of York, all 10000 of them.

Thinking of time always gets me thinking of special relativity, which I generally think is wrong. How can anything be dependent upon speed or velocity without specifying what that speed or velocity is relative to. Experimental data has I believe seemed to support the idea, however my own idea on this is that rather than the speed of light being a limit to speed, its a limit to the perception of speed. Thus should my idea be true, the universe would make slightly more sense (which is the cause of my greatest concern, why the universe might make sense I have no idea), more importantly it gets rid of a whole bunch of paradoxes, and as far as I'm aware it can account for the same experimental results. Though I guess I should say along with my ideas that although I started studying for a degree in Physics with Astrophysics I did not complete the course, partly I felt the course was not as much theoretical physics as I would have liked, and partly for financial reasons.

I'll keep writting rambelings I hope people keep reading them, though I admit I'm likely to get repatitive, having so little imagination, also I tend to think the same thoughts alot having a memory like seive, well maybe not like a seive, as seives generally retain something... I also have a habit of trying to refine my ideas, taking into account new thoughts and any arguments I encounter that seem to me to be true, or at least more true than my own suppositions (though like most people my own ideas are more likely to be right in my view than other peoples, and I doubt I will ever truly be able to claim impartiality, though as a child the first thing I wanted to be was an inventor (anyone else remember prof. Brainstorm), and the second thing from DNA's H2G2, I wanted to be LIVR, Learned Impartial and Very Relaxed).

When there is no gravity there should at least be some levity smiley - winkeye
