Basking in the sun eh! lucky you smiley - envy Was it one of your archeological trips? It's been pretty awful weather here for the past week, might have something to do with the time of year smiley - silly

I'm doing good thanks smiley - biggrin I'm just waiting for my passport to arrive smiley - boing so i can become a jet-setter smiley - bigeyes

I'll be jetting off to Canada....in 2009 smiley - boing The last time i left this country i was 16, which was......last week! smiley - laugh Strangely enough, i went to Malta for 10 days with my folks. I remember it well, though from what i've heard the place has changed an awful lot since the 70's.

Did you see the pyramids? smiley - cool How many encounters with camels did you have?....I don't like camels, neither does my daughter. A huge camel spat at her in our local zoo smiley - laugh

Oh WOW smiley - bigeyes Canada sounds like a great destination!! How long is the flight there? Are you going to see the Rockies? Will you bring me some snow back? (Failing that, a Husky will do) smiley - biggrin

You fibber! You told me you were 16 yesterday, and now I find out you're a whole week older smiley - laugh
Malta is changing a lot, especially now the EU has sunk it's foul teeth in there. smiley - sadface It's still charmingly stuck in the 1960's in certain ways though.(I don't mean free love and miniskirts unfortunately)smiley - laugh

We saw the pyramids and Sphynx, but they are a bit underwhelming because of the 'Disney' style presentation.smiley - winkeye We were off into the wilder places mostly though, and went where tourists rarely tread.smiley - biggrin At the Red Pyramid at Dashur I saw my first 'up close' camel being ridden by a gun toting policeman...........very Lawrence of Arabia.smiley - magic He tapped it's bum with his stick and it gave him a big old kiss on the cheek smiley - rofl
For a small 'donation' to the Egyptian Police Benevolent fund he offered me a picture with either Himself, his amourous camel or his Kalashnikov........guess which one I opted for smiley - winkeye

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. What are you off to Canada for?

The flight there is 8 hours smiley - yikes Only 7 coming home though. Apparently it's quicker to get here because of the wind! smiley - laugh
I'm going while there is any snow about, so i'll have to look for somethig else. smiley - eureka How about a mountie or a lumberjack? smiley - bigeyes
I have friends that i will be visiting there, actually on is a hootoo friend; Rev Nick. smiley - magic They came to visit me in Spetember and we had a great time smiley - biggrin

Hhmmmm...i would guess the camel, i think you could be a camel lover smiley - winkeye Though is suspect it was probably the kalashnikov...boys and their toys smiley - biggrin
Is it right that the sphinx and the pyramids are suffering from the affects of pollution eating away at the walls? It would be a shame if they were lost.

Gulfstream apparently. My sister honymooned in Alaska (weird choice, but I don't think they went out in the cold much) and she said the flight back was quicker.
Sounds a pretty super adventure anyway. I hope to get a postcard (and a female Mountie by recorded delivery)smiley - winkeye

It was the gun of course smiley - blush The policeman offered me a handle of his weapon, who was I to refuse?smiley - laugh Unfortunately, I was wearing my hat at the time. I look AWFUL in any form of headwear, so the pic is not so much Indiana Jones, as Benny Hill smiley - rolleyes

The pollution in Cairo is pretty bad, there's a constant smog over the city, so the Limestone pyramids and Sphinx are under threat. Luckily, the REAL erosion problem is acid rain........and they don't have TOO much of that.smiley - winkeye The really disappointing thing is the McDonalds/Kentucky Fried chicken and similar dumps just behind you smiley - sadface We actually went to the laser show in the evening to avoid the crowds.
It was aimed at the Disney generation tho, so that was a bit weak too. Lots of romance and stuff about Akenaten and Nefertiti, then lots of Tutenkhamun stuff. None of those 3 were anything to do with the pyramids as Giza.........but I guess I'm being picky smiley - laugh
It was awesome to sit there and think........I'm actually here!! I'd have been more impressed with just 30 seconds of silence and looking at the structures.smiley - biggrin

I've seen those females mounties, they are BIG women and have to shave twice a day!.....but who am i to deny you a gift of a mountie smiley - winkeye

See, i knew it would be the gun smiley - laugh
Did the policeman chase you round at high speed, with scantily clad ladies following? smiley - laugh

Is there any country left in the world, that has'nt got a Mc.D's or kentucky fried chicken? Nothing spoils a veiw more than that, aside from the overwhelming whiff of stale chips....A camel probably smells sweeter smiley - laugh

There a plans afoot for a visit to Niagra Falls while i'm in Canada smiley - cool One place i would really love to see smiley - biggrin

I'd love to see Niagra falls too smiley - magic

I'd want to stand on that platform that was in the famous film (that slips my memory) and go on that boat that goes under the falls smiley - wow

Can you try to find out if they turn the falls off at night? I was told it years ago, and everybody thinks I'm mad when I say that smiley - laugh
(I think it's something to do with hydro electrics)smiley - winkeye

That platform thing is there apparently, though you won't get me on it, i have a fear of heights smiley - yikes
There is a path that you can walk down, it takes you behind the falls so you can see it from the inside. That sounds like fun smiley - wow
What is it with people eh! We know there is a giant bath tap that turns the water off at night smiley - biggrin

Oh go on with you! Just nip onto the platform, take a few pics, and pretend it's just a water feature in your garden centre smiley - laugh
I'm not a fan of heights either truth be told smiley - blush Oddly, I always end up somewhere extremely high wherever I go. Just a sucker for a view I guess.smiley - biggrin

I like the idea of seeing the falls from the back. I bet the noise would be awesome smiley - bigeyes

I'm trying to subtly introduce the idea of me escaping to India next year........for a month.......to watch cricket. This is going to take a lot of charm and smooth talking to get work to agree. You think I'm up to it? smiley - laugh

~:*-Venus-*:~

If i went onto that platform, it would make the news 'Mad Essex woman stuck on platform a Niagra Falls' smiley - yikes
I love the idea of the veiw, as long as i'm not the one stuck out on a limb. When i locked myself out of my house, i had to climb ladder to get into the open window. got up to six wrungs and froze....i had to be rescued smiley - blush How embarrassing is that!

Is your boss male or female?
I don't think you will have any problem smooth talking a grovelling to get work to let you out for a month.......though if I were your boss smiley - evilgrin

Hello Airy, hoe are you doing?
It's been a while, well 3 years by the looks of things. smiley - laugh

My family has increased by one, another grandson 16 months old. goes by the name of Taylor and he's so cute.

I did indeed go to Niagara and it was stunning, words can't really explain just how magnificent that place is. My whole time in Canada was fantastic. (I'm not just saying that 'cos Nicks subscribed to this page smiley - laugh)

What brings you back to this site? I don't use it often these days, i'm a facebook defector smiley - laugh

Are you still into archy.....arkeee....fossil hunting and digging up stuff?

smiley - hug Hellooooooooooo! Can't beleive it has really been 3 years since we left this thread!!!

Been laid up off work for a bit with a back problem (unwilling to get it out of bed), so thought I'd have a look round the old joint. Nice to see some old faces are still here, but a few old favourites have gone smiley - sadface
I thought I'd have a quick play and post a few jokes, see who turned up. Got my third posting in next word game yikesed!!!!.......and then re-instated smiley - rofl Some things really do stay the same smiley - biggrin

Not really gone down the facebook route, but my sister is an absolute fanatic and keeps the place running on her own postings I reckon smiley - biggrin
Still doing odd bits of fossil hunting, but I've moved from Roman to Zulu War interests now, and hope to go to South Africa next year to visit all the sites.
Also jnr has stopped playing pansy ball, and now does rugby instead, so I've rediscovered the joys of belonging to a rugby club. Ooooooooo my head and liver smiley - cheers

So glad Canada a Niagra were even better than expectations, and great news on the new (ish) addition to the family smiley - hug
