There's a first time for everything . . .
. . . and so here's my first post. To get the introductory stuff out of the way, I'm an early middle aged Australian lawyer with autodidactic tendencies, a short attention span and a wife and two children.
I don't want to make this political, but I noticed that the UK PM is planning some (neutral term needed . . "dangerous"? no. "absurd"? no.) interesting changes to the criminal justice system. All I ask is that you in the Mother Country be careful, because things like the right to silence, the rule against double jeopardy and the rules of evidence are there for a reason. That's my way of introducing one of my principal interests - law, and in particular legal history.
Does anyone have any idea if it is still possible to fish the parts of England that Isaak Walton described in the The Compleat Angler, oh so many years ago? Thus we get to interest number 2, flyfishing.
Single Malts - are Islay malts worth it? Please tell me. I feel I need to know for sure. At this stage, I have my doubts. I have also had a lot of fun trying all sorts of malts in order to develop those doubts.
In order to generate a certain amount of comment, gentle abuse and some different points of view, let me just say that I think Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare's plays. Francis Bacon was no doubt a very nice sort of chap, but he's not Shakespeare. Should we teach Shakespeare in secondary schools? Isn't it wasted on the young?
With summer upon us here in the land of Oz we await the arrival of the ubiquitous Australian bush fly. How does flyspray work? I have no idea.
