For banging on so much about 'Guns, Germs and Steel' that I felt compelled to buy it when I came across it in a secondhand shop, that is.
It really is remarkably good, isn't it? It's quite humbling to realise that what we think of as 'history' covers only the last few years. I'm impressed by the writing style, too; a clearly structured, well-paced argument with repetition only where it's sensible to keep the ideas at the forefront.
And I have to find out much more about the Mississippi civilisation.
I've been spreading the word!
Many thanks!
