I prefer

"...simply forms part of a cone"

As in

you are looking 'along its barrel', and therefore the rainbow's shape in three dimensions simply forms part of a cone.

? That looks good, but I would like to mention the word 'conical' and this seems the right place. Maybe I'm wrong. Need to weigh it up.

Actually you're probably right. What does 'conical' add beyond a longer word for cone?

something I don't like though -- the 'shape' 'forms' part of a cone . . . no, the shape 'is' something.

How about

you are looking 'along its barrel', and therefore the rainbow's shape in three dimensions is simply part of a cone.

You can see me restraining myself from putting in a colon (what do you mean, I'm a colon lover?) or an em dash, to act as a 'ta-da' after 'simply'!!

Or maybe you meant

you are looking 'along its barrel', and therefore in three dimensions the rainbow forms part of a cone.

Actually that looks good

The Towers will probably muck it about so badly you won't recognise it anyway, but at least I can say it's not my fault.smiley - biggrin

Well, they might be gentle with it...I can't guarantee that some of your more fanciful poetry will stay, though.
