Hello Recumbentman.
Did you come across Ken Lynch? He was a Dubliner, sadly now deceased, who designed and built a recumbent tricycle. It was powered by a rowing motion, instead of pedalling, and he entered marathons and the like to publicise it. Coincidentally, he played the cello.

Dear John
No I never came across Ken; was he round recently? I have seen a recumbent(ish) trike with a hand-pump mechanism in Dublin, used by a guy without the use of his legs by the look of it; a great idea. Infinitely more cred than a motorised wheelchair. Strangely some people take me for handicapped when they see my PDQ; or ask me have I a bad back. Far from it, you have to be in the whole of your health to ride one of these -- but it doesn't give you pain!
I got interested in recumbents when I read about the Avatar some 21 years ago. At that time it cost £1000+ so I waited till they came down to reasonable prices.
