I also dig stuff about older cultures and get involved in re-enacting some Roman Gladitorial scenes at the Brisbane Medieval Fayre, I am only a lowly centurion and not trained to fight , look big in the armour but.

smiley - sorry I am not surprised you are confused as it turns out I didn't send you my first posting after all, the one that is where I introduce myself and agree with you about the similarities shared by punk and folk. I think they have very parallel objectives and even work in compatible community ways. The h2g2 punk society for eg. but do we really need to share all our hairdresser story's ? Oh, what the hell I have one too... a dreadlocked friend in Melbourne, which is my home town , theorises that the reason skinheads are so stupid is due to a phenomenon whereby thier hair ,in frusration at not being allowed to grow freely in it's natural outward fashion ,actually grows inwards and strangles thier brains.smiley - clown

I also am a guitarist/singer/songwriter even thogh I play bass in my current band which is kind of old fashioned experimental chugga punk with melodic elements and political /social/personal lyrics ,I only do about 1/5 of the writing and mainly stick to backing vox .

Lately we've been doing lots of Irish tunes for fun and they are really helping my singing ,there's something so familiar and easy about them, also , I am getting a bit hooked on waltzes as a result.
There is a long tradition (in white Australian terms anyway), of Irish music in Australia and many of our ballads are set to old tunes,I s'pose there is nothing unique about this.I have found that the folkies are pretty nice and not really any worse smelling than your average punk.
I hope this goes some way to filling you in on what must have seemed like a very obscure message.I also hope I can share some music around too once I figure out how.

Did I say I was a Centurion?

This is WRONG.

I am only occasionally a Legionnaire, and so far down I don't seem to know even what I am called.

Hi rosi,

I'm a RL friend of smiley - elf & just popped in to say he's having some pretty yukky RL probs at the moment, one of which is his computer has been molested by a kitten who seems to be a reincarnation of every anti-hero past & present (possibly future?) you can imagine. Chewing cables is just a hobby, it's what happens at the other end that is the worrying factor, said computer has an open back, said kitten is unreasonably small!!!

So, if he doesn't get back to you, he's not (necessarily) being rude; just a bit distracted.

Reading your post, you are definitely the sort of person he would want to meet!

--So would I actually, not least because I too am doing a bit of bass playing; the fact i have not a clue what I am playing in terms of note names isn't hindering me in the slightest!smiley - biggrin

Hi terri

Sorry to hear of Chan-Mick's tek trouble,a good kitten is worth it though, but only one? no wonder there's havoc!

My tek troubles are now a thing of the past (touch wood),I have a new computer today, yay.

If I was asked at any given time to state which note I was playing I would have to stop, count , and mutter alphabetical nonsense before giving an answer, and no guarantees as to the accuracy. Twenty years of playng has taught me to learn, by bloody minded repetition, the shapes and patterns of scales and licks on the fretboard ,I dont think about notes ,keep it simple to start and tune into the beat & rhythm, that's bass.

Pardon my ignorance, what's RL?

Real Life??? Sounds like what Rushdie calls "The miracle of Reason."

Eggs are basic reproductive cells containing half the genetic information to form a zygotic embryo - it 's also a nonsense way I like to to greet people.smiley - smiley

I'm quite busy recodring stuff at the moment and doing production with my new toy so EFT can get some sound in cyberspace. We still record on tape so it can be troublesome to get into a format for the web.smiley - puff

talk again soon

Hi rosi,

I like the Rushdie quote. Absolutely no "Reason" involved in my RL at present I'm afraid!

Hope your recording is going well. I've got a MiniDisc recorder & mike; despite being so small, the quality is not bad at all; it's especially useful for trying to record largeish outdoor gigs.

My bass playing (and a lot else) is on "hold" at the moment, since I am probably moving as soon as funds permit. The Beast & Yoda will accompany me of course, priorities & all that!smiley - winkeye

Onward into battle!
