What's wrong with Mongols?

I'm sure Mongolia is a very nice country and the episode of Blue Peter that I saw made the people out to be a very nice too 
Or are you talking about Ghengis Khan?
Interestingly, my dictionary defines the word 'mongol' (lowercase M) as a "highly offensive term" for someone with Down's Syndrome. I did not know that.
