Why not just tell him the truth, Terri, that you do not find the prospect of spending a week in a camper van promising, and that you do not think you'll enjoy yourself? That you don't *want* to take that kind of vacation? That you'd much prefer ?
If you can't be honest with someone, express what you're really feeling, and get back something resembling concern for your wishes, needs, and happiness, then you quite possibly are planning a getaway with the wrong person.

And if that's not enough to think on, consider this: remember that the last person *I* spent a "vacation" (some vacation ) with has surely long since found other people from whom to sponge money, I'm quite possibly still paying off the remainder of his tab.

Well, it's all become a little academic since i looked at my bank statement; after paying a fraction of my electric bill, i am left with bog all, there is no way on earth i am going anywhere except possibly to easycash to try and sell something to exist the rest of the month!
Went with Patrick N earlier to persuadeEDF that the repayments they suggest are ludicrous, they have finally accepted this. Then on to another office which sometimes helps out with energy bills in "deserving causes"; we have to go and see them again on Monday; so there is no way i am leaving here right now.
Viking is at the dentist right now so when he returns, i will just have to be prepared for weeping, wailing but not gnashing of teeth. he will probably trundle off with The Ex i imagine, so be it.

If I could swing any spare fundage for you, I would. As it is, I'm not in all that different a boat. When I got home from work yesterday, K and I had $1700 in our checking account. After I paid the phone, cable, Mastercard, gas and electric, we're left with $1100, and the rent's due next week, which will take $1000 of that. K's paycheck this week will cover groceries and his car insurance. Then what next? It seems universal that the income is barely enough, if it is enough, to cover the outgo.
Perhaps it's a reasonable out for the trip, though, and a reason he can't argue with. And if he does take his ex with, then I was correct in my assumption that he's not worth your time. If he stays home and enjoys time with you regardless of the money situation, and is willing to do things together you *both* can afford, then he's well worth it!

Well, what has happened is he returned and has gone again. No scenes, he seems to just accept no way can i go away right now. So he is (he says) going off on his own for a few days. Probably a very good idea.
He obviously has this massive thing about needing the sun, he was brought up in Africa, plus i strongly suspect has a severe case of S.A.D (seasonal affective disorder) so i don't think he is exaggerating that aspect of things.
No idea when he is going, no idea if he will contact The Ex, he has no credit on his mobile phone and going by past experience is unlikely to invest in a phone card; it's always me who buys them for him 'cos i like to be in contact; on his side he is it seems content to just wait till other people ring him. So, it's out of sight, but not out of mind.
Bon vacance le viking!

Big bad brave bored anti geekstuff terri has just possibly managed to install real player thingy. I just did what it told me to and prayed, so i now have a new jolly little logo on the desktop. It seemed to get happily to 82% installation then everything froze, so i had to switch off, get blue screen of death and scandisk thingy; but it seems OK again. No clue if it really is installed or only partly so, i am living in a mystery world here.
RK, if you are lurking, for gods sake HELP!!! I can access the Vivaldi thing, got the pretty picture, but no sound! Are the speakers actually connected to the beast? I can't get down low enough to find out what should plug in where; the light is on on the speakers & volume turned right up, real player says it's all happening, but no noise at this end.
And PLEASE record that selection of for me, we never did get round to it before you left!
I bumped into David today, told him i have no sound, he may pitch up tomorrow, it would be nice if i could give him a bit of info in french, so; i repeat, RK IF YOU are lurking please help out!!!!
(or anyone techie who has a clue, but at least RK knows this beast)

Hmm I was hoping you had gotten help.
I will tell you what my issues were with Realone.
(1) enough room on disc?
There are ways to free up disc space.
(2) is there a previous copy?
It must be totally removed with the program removal - Not just delete.
(3) It may start up again where it left off if you got to the site.
(4) sometimes the machines idenity gets confused and shutting OFF and string up can fix that.
(5) If you have other programs for video they compete so you may have to remove others first.
(6)With a slow connection it takes forever to download.
(7) The most likely is a firewall is saying no.
If you have a firewall , enough should have loaded that you can now allow it through by adding it to the list of allowed programs.
(8)You need to use the screename that you signed on with and the name you pay with.
(9) you need to specify what areas you want it to take over so that you hear radio and see TV screen. The video is nearly worthless without fast speeds. The audio usually worlks without.
Those are all of the things that stopped me.
With some ISPs you get Real player included.
The windows video/audio program does not like to share with Real.
You will have to disable the windows one but keep the messanger loaded but not neccesarily open.

*gulp*
I think i will wait for David.... for that abbi; reckon it's a bit beyond me. I don't have a firewall thingy; other than that it's still a slightly bigger mystery than why the answer is 42.
There has been communication from the viking, who is now, it seems, sitting peacefully decompressing(!!!i never knew he was so pneumatic!!!) beside a waterfall in the Dordogne and will return to the fold tomorrow; mainly i think 'cos he fears for the welfare of his petunias and Eric The Baby Spider Plant, of which he is very fond.
Meanwhile i am making a patchwork quilt, but not in the conventional way; nope, you know me. i am doing it "crazy quilt" style, which basically means you cut out shapes at random, none of this silly sensible square stuff; no, no, no: this is more like a Kandinsky on acid thing. Due to the fact that i have the attention span of a gnat, i am cheating horribly & glueing the bits onto a sheet, maybe later if i ever actually finish it, i can find some kind soul with sewing machine and patience to stitch the thing together, if not, it will have a lifespan determined by when it needs to be washed, since i am using my usual cheesebox glue, which is water soluble. Oh well, it keeps me off the streets and it's free entertainment!
*an example of "real" crazy quilting*

Abbi, who was it on here who was really into patchwork stuff? for prompt response to email by the way! But you didn't answer that question!!!! Hope enjoyed the extra!

Hi Terri, I have a parcel I'm putting together with some bits and bobs you may be able to use for cheeseboxes, some miscellany dubbed CDs, a comp tape or two I made for you of some of my favorite tunes, and copies of the new CDs from K's bands (Geezers and Tuffy UK). I plan to send it off next weekend, if that's okay?
(If so, I would like to work on a second and/or third comp tape for you!)

Hi Kaz!
Yes, me too! the chances seem good from what i can gather by phone, he seems to have had a nice time hugging waterfalls and so long as his poor plants haven't dropped down dead, there is hope he may have "decompressed", sorry i just when he says it, which is entirely the wrong reaction; i just get a mental vision of him as a balloon going bbbbbbbbbbbvvvvvzzzzzzzzfffffffftttttt.
(obviously, it just means "to relax:unwind" in frogsqueak)
Perhaps i should buy him a diving bell for Christmas??? When he throws a sulk i just shove him in, lock the thing and let him rant away...i could watch him like you do a washing machine going round, but not hear him; let him out when the spin cycles finished...hmmm

Terri, yes the decompressed thing is quite funny!
I am looking forward to getting one of PCs cds as well, it seems they are quite popular!

*thinking of money making schemes*
We could make copies of the Geezers CD's and decompress the viking completely, so that we could include flat-pack "Build your own viking" kits; "just add hot air" as a limited edition offer, auction them off on EBay....hmmmm

Yes, Kaz, I was going to send you a copy of the Tuffy UK CD. I *think* I've found your physical address. We hope to get the stuff to the post office for both of you next week!
I don't know how "popular" they'll be, but I just think K's so effing talented, I wanted to share some of the fun, y'know?
Kaz, if you're interested, Geezers stuff can be downloaded for free at their web site, http://www.thegeezers.net/geezers.htm.
Terri, glad to hear he's "decompressing". We all need to do that sometimes, I think. K's currently watching an awful movie called "Hell Comes to Frogtown" (he found the DVD for $4 and had never seen it previously) while I alternate between popping onto h2 and reorganizing knick-knacks and stuff. My gram's giving us a pagoda-style bookcase, and I was setting aside some books and stuff for it.
Were very productive today, and cleaned out the spare bedroom and its closet. All of the miscellany stuff we needed to hide away is stowed in that closet, and the room is all neat and tidy now. Laundry has been done, litter box cleaned, Herman is sleeping inside of a cardboard box, and everything is copacetic. We're going out for dinner, I don't know where, then coming home to watch either "L'Inferno" or "The Pawnbroker". Tomorrow we're planning to go thrift shopping and/or yard sale-ing.

I have to tell you, K is so tickled that you guys are giving his band so much exposure... he's "recruited" me as their manager.

Nope, only the Amazing Flame-O, the trombonist. No photos of the drummer. I really have to get those to you. And I need to get the photos taken of the falt, I promised Kaz. So, as soon as I can borrow a digital camera, photos of K, Herman, and the flat shall be forthcoming.
