Evening Mike,
Long time no iguanas - purple or otherwise. I've missed them marroon lizards over the previous months you know.
But anyway, are you still around here? And if so, how are things going? If they are going that is?

Steven, good to speak to you again old chap! Here, have a purple iguana (the finest I have).
Sorry I haven't been in contact much but my center of operations tends to be Planet Skaro nowadays, I suggest you join up as well, you'd love it! It's like the golden days of the Beeb boards; jokes aplenty, Lance on top form and no trolls (though sadly the Lord Mike Saga is yet to appear on there in any major form).
I'm fine, I've been editing the upcoming Season 30 featuring the Eighth Doctor and new companion Nicole Donna. Lance, Rich, Martin and I are all contributing.
Anyway, how are things your end?

I am actually signed on/logged in/jacked in/installed/stuck on Skaro, in actual fact, but I don't often go there - the background is a bit too black for my liking. I wonder around the chatroom from time to time though.
No Lord Mike Saga. Parp (sticks out tounge and waggles it happily). I've actually only just managed to log myself back into H2G2 - and I thought, why not go and see if my old friend Michael is still around? (I actually came up with 25 good reasons, but I ignored them). I'm not sure if people are still writing here or not - I have a strange feeling that everyone has forgotten about it...
Is Season 30 going to be seeing the light of dayness on BBCi? Time and Renaut Espace or whatever it calls itself. Actually, BBCi has been irritating me a bit recently. The Shalka board is hideous (incidentally, have you been watching Shalka, and if the answer to that question is an affirmative, what do you think to it?) but not quite as bad as the "It's coming back!" board. No offence to anyone who writes there, but it's overflowing with idiots who start threads like: "MY TOP 10 LIST OF 20 THINGS THAT MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE NEW SERIES!!!!!!"
Anyway, um, sorry about my rant there. Thanks for the purple iguana. It's funny, because just the other day I was looking at my bookshelf and I thought to myself, Steven, I thought, there's a gap on that bookshelf that would probably hold an igunana. A purple one.

There aren't any plans to put Season 30 up on Time and Space at the moment but it might be done in the future as a sort of 'repeat run', depends how well it goes down on Skaro I suppose.
I have indeed been watching Shalka and there's only one word for it: fantastic! A brilliant wee beasty and what about those cliffhangers, eh? The best since Talons me thinks...
I know wht you mean about the Beeb boards, I've never actually left, I still post on T&S reguarly but have scaled down my posting on the other boards. I stear clear of the new series board, the people on there infuriate me, for years these people were the ones moaning that the Beeb should bring back Doctor Who and now they have they're all so negative about it.

I was slightly less impressed with Shalka, I'll admit. It was better than I expected - however... I didn't think it was great. It was a bit clunky in parts, both plot-wise and script-wise. I mean, the fact that it existed at all was more than I had hoped for, and it was good for what it was - but nothing beyond that. I don't really feel that you can compare it to the TV series - it was really like a less sophisticated Big Finish audio I felt.
Having said that, there were some parts of it, that I thought were pretty good - I loved the idea that the Shalka had secretly been taking over the universe (80% of the dead planets or whatever) and no one had really noticed. Very spooky. The last episode, I felt though, was a bit of a letdown - the Doctor sings to kill them. I know it makes sense plotwise, but that doesn't make it sound any nicer, and it isn't even that original...
I still post on BBCi from time to time - as does Lance (he's up to 8000+ now you know) but I don't really get much time, and even if I had more I probably wouldn't go there any more. It's turned into a different place. It's funny, but almost all the people that were there when we were the "main regulars" (so to speak) have moved on or gone). P'ah, I sound like an old man.
Are you keeping up with the Big Finish releases? I haven't bought any for ages, so I feel a bit behind with it all now.

(Whips his scarf around his neck and smacks himself in the face with it.)
Forgotten no. Just a trouble of no one posting leading to a lack of no one posting.
And that with the twatting new age h2g2... This is my third time around the bend and Mike's pretty plushed about it I bet....
Sorry. Forgot me password and stuff. Plus the universe is a quiet place with a busy you in it. Mike's off to France and Spain on his EU conferences, Tempus is tempermental, Lissa and Marian are in flux, Raspy is getting more and more adult, Lance is well Lance, and I am a flutterfelspar and is flitting about yahoo and Gallifrey....
Psst, I'm here in this form now. Is waiting for me late edition of the Dailyness. (just kidding)

Plushed? What an odd turn of phrase old man, can't understand it myself alas...
>>Mike's off to France and Spain on his EU conferences<<
Well, what can I say? The world needs me
>>Raspy is getting more and more adult<<
Quite so! They've just allowed him to take the stabilisers off of his bike. Ah, they grow up so fast
>>Lance is well Lance<<
There should've been a commer in there somewhere me thinks
>>Are you keeping up with the Big Finish releases<<
As best I can old boy, I shall be ordering my copy of Scherzo soon. Speaking of which, Steven, about a year ago (when we were in regular email contact) you kept badgering me about how great Spare Parts is. Well, a year on I am pleased to announce that I have finally listened to it! And a fine example of the magnificence of Big Finish it is to!

I do like Spare Parts - actually I listened to it again the other day; and it was better this time. It's not quite good as Spare Parts though.

Good God.

Lance is well, Lance.
hmm, yes does sound better with the commer in it...
As I read it I think to myself, can anyone say, "QUACK!"
Raspy maybe isn't getting more adult..... Just more involved.....
or something.

Wooo... I just read back through my message, and realised it made no sense at all. Right, this is what I meant to say:
I do like Spare Parts - actually I listened to it again the other day; and it was better this time. It's not quite good as Chimes of Midnight though.
See?

Yes, I wondered what you meant the first time!
I haven't heard Chimes of Midnight but everyone tells me that it's excellent (hey, it won the best DW audio ever in the DWM Awards so who am I to argue?). Have either of you heard Zagreus, and if so, what did you think of it?
You still around?
Chewable Acidophilus Posted Jan 5, 2004
Chimes is excellent - very atmospheric, a truly chilling story, and just the right amount of dark humour. Very nice.
I haven't heard Zagreus yet though - I might get it later on, although I'm also thinking of getting Seasons of Fear or Embrace the Darkness, or something like that (yes, I know I'm a long way behind, but you should see how far behind I am with the books - I just read Blood Heat :p). I'm not sure which one to get though - the thing is I don't really follow any of the "arcs" (if you can call them that), instead I just buy one when it catches my fancy. Any suggestions? I've been thinking of going for Neverland, but the only other McGann ones I have are Time of the Daleks and Chimes of Midnight.
Tell me, Mike, is McGann still number one on your list of Doctors?

>>I've been thinking of going for Neverland<<
I'd advise - nay implore - you to listen to Neverland before you listen to Zagreus as a lot - okay most - of it won't make sense unless you do. A general knowledge of what had previously happened in the season wouldn't hurt either (though Neverland is the only essential one).
>>Tell me, Mike, is McGann still number one on your list of Doctors?<<
Indeed he is! I admit I did have my doubts for a time but when I heard him in Zagreus I slapped myself around the face and told myself to stop being so stupid, he is excellent! There are some scenes in Zagreus that really solidify him as my favourite Doctor;
Doctor: 'Alright Cat, I'm dead'
Cat: 'Are you sure?'
Doctor: 'Absolutely, dead as a doornail'
Key: Complain about this post
