What about talking about this fun operating system that we have in common? What kernel/distro/window manager/browser/shell/terminal do you prefer?

I'm 2.4.20/Debian sid/Enlightenment 16.5/Phoenix 0.5/zsh/multi-gnome-terminal

Well here we go:

Hmm. We'll convert you yet! I take it you mean KDE3 ... if you are using KDE2 you need a public flogging smiley - winkeye

Why use Netscape 7 when you can use Mozilla? Netscape 7 is just an old version of Mozilla that AOL bought off them! Plus, Mozilla is Open Source, so it's being developed all the time.

Type the following command (as root) and free yourself from the pain of poor web browsers! (Opera's OK, but very very non-free)

rpm -Uhv ftp://fr.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/9.0/i586/Mandrake/RPMS/mozilla-1.1-10mdk.i586.rpm

Actually, on second thoughts, I suspect that RPM is on your mandrake CD, so just look for it on there and save yourself the download. smiley - winkeye

I have got Mozilla installed, I just don't use it but I could if I wanted to.

How very odd. It'll do everything Netscape 7 will do for you, but more as well. smiley - smiley I'm using Phoenix (stripped down version of Mozilla) and even that is more functional than Netscape!

I've been sitting here at this nasty NT machine for 10 mins and I still can't think of anything.
Except prehaps this: I intend on doing LFS do you think I'm mad?

smiley - snowman

Hello

Post 17

OwlofDoom

Linux from scratch? Yes you're mad. Go half way and get gentoo from http://www.gentoo.org/ - that's the best of the source-only linux distributions, and it's much easier than doing LFS. smiley - biggrin

Hello

Post 18

Snowman - For a story click my name you know you want to

Well what I eventually want ot do is creat my own distro but I don't want to do it on my own.

smiley - snowman

Hello

Post 19

OwlofDoom

Aha. Well your best bet would be to get used to a source-only distro, so you know what you're doing. Seriously, check out gentoo first. I wouldn't recommend LFS if you've only been on a binary-dominated distro like Mandrake.

I had used RH7.2 before I switched to Mandrake. Compiling from source doesn't really bother me.
