You once mentioned having trouble keeping stories together, so why not as a test write an 'Unbound' complete with a regeneration and self-contained story attached?
Make the story your own and so you have free reign over the character and everything, so it can go at your own pace?
So many what ifs?
Like what if Humans and the Silurians found peace and when Mondas arrived Earth was much, much different...
Or
What if....
The Doctor failed to contact the Brigadier on his arrival on Earth?
