Hi Dolfrog,
As soon as I saw your name on the "Who's Online "list, I wondered if you were the same person as I have seen on the CAPD site for St. John's. Your intro quickly answered that question! I have read the APD postings for several years but never contributed, as my son was 17 before we found out he had a problem, and he would have nothing to do with any special programs or help at school by that point. (Although I believe he was very relieved to find that he actually had (has) a problem that prevented him from being able to do well or enjoy school at all.) I always enjoy your posts because they give real-life illustrations of what it is like to live with this problem and practical solutions for dealing with it.

I have not noticed anything on the h2g2 site that mentions APD, so perhaps it would be a good idea for a Guide Entry. So many people are completely unaware of the existence of this disability, and so many lives could be improved if it is discovered early!

Hi ilannd

Yes you are correct, I do contribute to dr.j!s list, not so much just recently. dr.j! has also been busy with the NCAPD non profit organisation in the USA since the sad loss of Debbie Wood.

I have been busy just recently setting up APDUK a voluntary organisation, which is seeking Registered Charity Status, we have web site at www.adpuk.org , there is also a forum for anyone who has any APD issues which can be accessed via the Information section of the web site.
I also host an Adult APD forum which has been going for 2 years now, and this can again be accessed via the APD site or my own web site at www.dolfrog.com
I will be developing this h2g2 space etc when time allows, I am in the middle of an online indepth discusion regarding reading at another forum currently, and we are still trying to set up APDUK as a registered Charity with the Charity Commission.

Hi ilannd

I thought you may like to know of a few latest developments in the Uk world of APD,

soory for the long gap, but i had pneumonia in the new year, we also moved house, and my compter crashed. i not sure what else can happen , but it probably will???lol

during a meeting we had with the director of the Medical Research Councils Institute of Hearing Research, it was mentioned that APD is now considered to be a major cause of dyslexia. Which is born out by many of the papers link to on the APDUK Professional web page. http://www.apduk.org.uk

We at APDUK now run an international APD caht on the first Sat of every month at 9.00pm our time. The link to the chat is at the MSn APDUK forum, or you My Colleague at APDUK does post the tlinksaround the various APD forums during the week before the chat. ( including Dr.Js. By the Way dr.J hopes to join the next chat first Sat of June.)

There is a Uk APD clinic which is based at Sheffield University, but there is a years waiting list.

The Adult APd forum at which is based at Yahoo has been very active in the last month or so on some very intersting topics. There is a link to this on the Adults web page on the APDUK web site.
