They're heros for hire that can take the contents of any shed or garage to build the weapons that will win the day. They'll never be caught.

Did you know that George Peppard starred in ' Breakfast at Tiffany's '?
You sound as if you're quoting from McGyver, btw

Yeah, I was vaguely aware of that. Not really one my favourite films.
I was rather fond of his 'other' TV series Banecek.
The only MacGyver I've seen had Brian Blessed in it, who was brilliantly over-the-top as ever.

I don't know Banecek ( not under that title, anyway), and I've only ever seen the last few minutes of a MacGyver, when waiting for the next film to start, but there's a brilliant German comedian taking the p*ss out of the series

I also suggest a search on your prefered engine for 'Charlie The Unicorn' and watch the video on one of the many sites that are sharing it.

You can call me TC Posted Aug 16, 2006
Hey - there are some really good comedians in Germany. They've been a bit slow on the uptake but over the last 10 years quite a few have made their name doing standup. (There is, typically, no German word for standup).
Cabaret has been around since the 20s - possibly, very likely, in fact, even before that. The German form of cabaret consists of a series of rehearsed sketches (with much ad lib) and satirical songs - often very near the knuckle politically and changing from night to night to fit in the daily political events.
Just recently, comedians have even been let loose without scripts and some of them have me , they are really good.
The problem with the slow development of comedy in Germany is due, in my opinion, to the lack of radio culture. They missed out on that entirely - no radio programmes like the Goons, or Round the Horne, or any of the others since then that have British people unabashedly crying with laughter over the kitchen sink or at the traffic lights.

Had to take the whole thread in one sitting, eh? You make it sound exhausting... I hope it was by merit of laughter.
I think Trillian's quite right about the radio. Without radio how many of us would still be familair with Douglas Adams or more recently The Mighty Boosh. One of the reason I'm so excited that Robert's book has been adapter for Channel 4 radio is the power of the tradition of radio comedy.

Yes, maybe I should listen to the radio more often, but I'm always so glad when it's quiet around me

But of course they do comedy in German TV; what about Derrick?

Actually speaking of SoaP the following shorts are for the most part much funnier: http://www.originalalamo.com/sites/2blanks/topfilms.aspx
I also saw The Notorious Bettie Page, which if have sense of humour, aren't a prude and have interest in such things is quite an enjoyable film.
