Hmmm... Now why am I not surprised?

Have a shufty over to the Chief Gordon thread. I followed a few links from the page you posted and came up with several Lulus....

Hope your holidays were terrific, by the way.

quite nice, thank you. very mellow and ruffle free, really. I like not visiting relatives just for that reason.

Oh, I had a lovely quiet holiday. My mother was away having a disfunctional family Christmas with my family in Toronto. She wanted me to go, too, but the last thing I wanted was to be spending a week cooped up with a Christmas-crazed pair of kids, one with ADHD.... One day last summer was more than enough, thank-you-very-much.

I spent the evening of the 24th at my friend's for a traditional Polish dinner, went to my sister's for the morning of the 25th, and then back to my friend's place for a traditional Canadian Xmas dinner.

Lovely time, with lovely people.

It *is* nice when you get to a certain age and can spend your holidays how you want, rather than having to do it everyone else's way, isn't it?

Next summer, I have to go to a family reunion...and I am SO not looking forward to it. My mother's family is all very nice, but only from a distance. One aunt won't let her kids do normal kid things for fear of hurting themselves, another can't wait to tell you how much money she has/spends, another can't figure out why her kids won't talk to her...you get the idea. I am glad that my mother had the foresight to sign up for one of those timeshare deals that are so big in Arizona, thus avoiding having to stay in the same place they are...

I think it is going to take a lot of repetitions of the Serenity prayer to get through that week...smiley - smiley

I knew someone whose mother had to have to have* three fukk dinners every Christmas, New Year, or any other special occassion. Her three sons were a-feuding and one son would talk to another but not the third, but none of the brothers were feuding with the same brother.

I believe it all started when one brother was storing a freezer full of meat at another brother's house and the third brother accidentally (or on purpose, knowing all three) unplugged the freezer. They got in a fist-fight that ended with the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) being called and one or the other (or perhaps all three) being jailed until the parents bailed them out.

One of the brothers once got in an argument over a game of Cribbage with his wife and accused her of cheating, threw over the board and ripped up their marriage certificate. Hot-headed doesn't begin to describe them.

*My opinion of that would have been that if they wouldn't all come to the only dinner I was having and behave in a civilized manner, they would be S.O.L......

Yeah, pretty much. Even my very acrimoniously divorced parents are better behaved then that. At my wedding, I threatened them both with a be nice or else. They were actually quite nice to each other.

It's been a long day...my students can't seem to get it through their heads that yes, I really am the teacher and yes, I really do mean that there will be a test, and no, I do NOT grade on a curve!
