Self
At the time of going to press, I am a 68 years old man. This may sound very old to many of our teenage or other h2g2'ers who havn't reached their fities yet. The change in attitude to aging begins when the age of fifty is reached. There is at first a great panic, then after the birthday celebrations one starts to realise that things are no worse at fifty than they were at forty nine and so it is when the sixties and seventies are reached. Aim to keep healthy and the rest of life will look after itself.
Crown Green bowling is my summer outdoor hobby, but lots of walking with my wife is also enjoyable. Growing vegetables in a small patch in our back garden is a joy and keeps me busy in between sitting at my word processor and writing fiction.
I've written many poems and had 23 published, that's easy, because nobody pays anything for poetry. The hard nut to crack is getting a fiction story published. I have a 102,000 word story ready written but either its too long for a publisher to take a chance on, from a new writer, or my presentation and synopsis is not good enough. Anyway nobody wants to know it. In fairness many publishers have returned my stuff unread, saying that their lists are full.
So I've changed tack and written four completely different genre stories of more moderate length. I'm about to finish a fifth which is a sci-fi and will be under 60,000 words.
