Crab hands
Posted Nov 19, 2007
The baby has started using a pincer grasp! That might not seem like much, but it means her fine motor skills are starting to develop. These are the skills she'll need to pick up food and throw it on the floor or rub it in her hair or to pick dandelions for me or to scribble pictures for obscure relatives. It's all very exciting. And demostrative of the small perimiter of my world.

Santa
Posted Nov 19, 2007
We put Christmas lights on the house over the weekend. It's supposed to be the last good weather on a weekend for a while. Now Peanut asks every day if Santa is coming today. Yesterday she wanted Santa to wake her up from her nap. Then last night she was talking about what Santa wears and I said he has big black boots like Daddy's. After that she asked if Santa has Crocs. Does he though? Anyone know? If he keeps up with the toy trends does he also keep up with clothing and footwear trends? This is going to be a fun Christmas.

Headset
Posted Nov 16, 2007
I have a handy dandy very shiny new headset for my phone. I'm on the phone quite a bit some days and it will increase now that we're at the end of the year and everyone will want to know where their stuff is and want to close out their books. Except... I have a cut on my belly (discrete and on the bikini line but it's still there) and I can't crawl on the floor to fish the lines to connect it behind my desk. The desk is just too close to the cube wall and the desk has a modesty panel on it and I don't know why since it's again, next to the cube wall. So there's about 2 inches of space between the desk & wall and the plug thing for the headset is about 3 inches wide. I'll have to con an unsuspecting fool into connecting it for me.

That time of year
Posted Nov 16, 2007
So here we are again. And I'm staring down the barrel of a holiday season spent entirely with my husband's family. His sis is preggers and doesn't want to travel for Thanksgiving and won't be permitted to travel for Christmas. So I'm stuck, stuck, stuck and wondering what in the world my two single brothers and my recently married brother will do for Thanksgiving since Mom is going to see her husband's family for Thanksgiving. There are barriers to them all driving to Topeka to see our aunt & uncle - jobs, crappy cars, lack of funds. I'm trying to work something out in my mind so they don't have to be alone and eat turkey cold cut sandwiches instead of turkey and mashed potatoes. Mr. Emee could put a turkey in the smoker Thursday morning before we leave. Youngest brother knows how to make mashed potatoes. I could buy them some microwave veggies in a bag and make a pumpkin pie. They could have lunch without us. And then I'd have leftovers... I need to make some phone calls tonight.

The whole oeuvre
Posted Nov 6, 2007
Surgery was last Monday. The hospital moved my surgery time from 10am to 12:30pm without letting me know so I sat in a pre-op room forever. I can be difficult to intubate so this time I had a lidocaine breathing treatment. Tasted disgusting and numbed everything from my lips all the way down my esophogus. It felt like it had worn off by the time my surgery came around but it must have done some good because my throat didn't hurt at all after surgery.
I had a 14cm diameter teratoma removed. So in the few weeks between CT scan and surgery, the alien baby grew 5cm. The doctor felt up my spleen, kidneys, uterus and right ovary while he was at it. That's a weird thing to think about. I have old scarring on the right kidney which shouldn't be problematic. My spleen is enlarged but probably from having the teratoma in the first place. And I have fibroids outside the uterus. They're small now so I won't need to do anything unless they start being a pain. Still, I'm starting to think that a hysterectomy is probably in my future.
I'm feeling fine, just tired and sore. I try not to take any meds during the day but I'm still taking the demerol at night to sleep. I'll have to ween myself off of that by next week though since I'll probably be back at work on the 15th. I think I've been doing too much around the house. I'm not supposed to lift more than 10lbs and I'm supposed to 'avoid housework'. Those are both really difficult when the baby weighs nearly 18lbs now and the dishes and laundry don't get done unless I do them. So, now this morning I'm sore and thinking about crawling back in bed. In all fairness though, Mr. Emee will do laundry when provoked. I think the baby pooping on him this morning might be provocation enough to get him to at least wash a load of jeans.
